1 UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY THE OPPORTUNITY - SENIOR DIRECTOR OF ALUMNI RELATIONS & ANNUAL GIVING Utah Valley University (UVU), the largest public teaching university in Utah, seeks an innovative and accomplished professional to serve as the senior director of alumni relations and annual giving. The Senior Director oversees the Alumni Relations and Annual Giving units within the Division of Development and Alumni Relations. This position is responsible for the strategic planning, creation, implementation and maintenance of alumni programs that foster strong relationships and goodwill with alumni and prospective donors. The position reports to the Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations and works collaboratively with colleagues throughout the division and campus to maximize alumni engagement, build loyalty and institutional pride, and support the University. THE UNIVERSITY Founded in 1941, Utah Valley University is a state university located in Orem, Utah, with a current enrollment of more than 33,000 students. UVU, nestled between Utah Lake and the Wasatch Mountain range, is minutes from Sundance and an hour from Park City and Snowbird. The campus is contiguous and increasingly interrelated to Silicon Slopes, one of the fastest growing high-tech business corridors in the nation. The University currently offers 75 bachelor degrees, 63 associate degrees, 39 certificate/diploma programs, and 3 high-demand master degrees in education, business, and nursing. This range of program offerings reflects UVU s unique mission as a regional teaching university with comprehensive community college programs and services. The University also delivers courses and programs in multiple locations and through distance delivery. In addition to the main campus located in southwest Orem, UVU offers courses in Heber City, Lehi, northeast Orem, Provo, Springville, Spanish Fork, and Saratoga Springs. More than 40 percent of UVU students are enrolled in at least one distance-delivered or hybrid course. 2 The Role of Senior Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving SUMMARY OF DUTIES Reporting to the Vice President of Development & Alumni Relations, the Senior Director of Alumni Relations & Annual Giving oversees the Alumni Relations and Annual Giving areas and also serves as the Director of the Alumni Board of Directors. Specific duties of the Sr. Director include developing strategies and programs for increased engagement with University s alumni, supporters and parents. The Senior Director also oversees the efforts of the annual giving program, including the UVU Telefund and Annual Giving initiatives. The Senior Director serves on the Division executive leadership team and collaborates closely with colleagues throughout the division and across campus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited institution with a master s degree in a directly related field, plus four years of experience related to the Summary of Duties of the position or bachelor s degree in a directly related field, plus six years related to the Summary of Duties of the position or any combination of higher education and/or experience totaling ten years. 3 About the Alumni Association The UVU Alumni Association is a non-dues-based association consisting of more than 220,000 alumni. Membership in the Alumni Association includes those who have accumulated at least 24 credit hours; those who have served as faculty, adjunct faculty staff or administration for at least six months; and donors or board members, upon their request who do not qualify otherwise. The full-time staff of the Alumni Relations office is provided by the University. It is charged with the responsibility of providing programs for the alumni in behalf of the University. It consists of three full-time staff members: an assistant director student alumni advisor, a marketing and membership coordinator, and an administrative support staff member. AFFILIATED GROUPS Several formal structures provide important alumni counsel to UVU s welfare. The Alumni Board The UVU Alumni Board comprises individuals who are all passionate about UVU and are willing to serve as advocates while helping the association meet its mission of keeping alumni connected to UVU. Board members are a valued part of the UVU Alumni Association and help drive its strategy and direction. Student Alumni Association (SAA) The student Alumni Association is a leadership organization consisting of students who organize programs and activities designed to connect their peers to alumni. They organize approximately 8-10 major events each year, including the annual S2S (Student-to-Student) giving campaign, Dinner with 12 Strangers, and 24-Hour Dribble. In 2015, SAA was given the district and national CASE Affiliated Student Advancement Programs (ASAP) Outstanding Internal Program awards for the Stop Being Boring recruiting campaign. In addition, the organization s 2015 S2S for the Arts campaign raised over $20,000 for the newly announce Performing Arts Building. Alumni & Visitor s Center 3 of 5

4 SPECIAL EVENTS Homecoming The alumni relations staff oversees UVU s Homecoming committee and annual alumni homecoming festivities. This includes the Family Fun Fair, Alumni Awards, Men s Soccer Tailgate Party, and Founder s Day Celebration. Commencement Graduates purchase their regalia through the Alumni Relations Office. A yearly campaign is organized to encouraged graduates to participate in commencement and convocation. Savings Connection, Oak Hall, Disneyland, Utah Community Credit Union, and Brent Brown Toyota. UVU Magazine The senior director acts as the publisher of UVU Magazine and oversees magazine budget and production. UVU Kids Club UVU hosts a kids club of more than 3,300 members. Children ages 4-14 are encouraged to join. Several activities including an annual summer social are organized by the alumni relations staff. Chapter & Society Reunions The association currently supports eight chapters and societies. These include MBA, Education, Native American, ROTC and Arizona chapters and the UVU Alumni Music Society. OTHER PROGRAMS UVU License Plates The program, which has sold over 650 license plates, generates revenue provide scholarships for deserving UVU students and to show off Wolverine pride. The cost is $25 a year plus a one-time $15 special plate fee. Affinity Programs The association has programs designed to provide benefits to alumni while raising operating funds. These include agreements with YTB Travel, Nationwide Insurance, Applicant Search, NCAA Division I Men s Soccer 4 of 5

5 About Annual Giving The Office of Annual Giving exists to increase regular giving to Utah Valley University. It focuses on expanding opportunities for quality education at UVU. Using phone, , mail, online giving, and other quality, multichannel approaches, the office identifies new donors, retains current donors, builds donor pipelines, and maintains the integrity of fundraising at UVU. The full-time staff of the Annual Giving Office consists of a director and an assistant director. PROGRAMS UVU Telefund The Telefund employs 20 callers, two managers, and two assistant managers, all of whom are students. Calling year round, the Telefund secures pledges of $100,000 annually. In addition to carrying out fundraising campaigns, the Telefund regularly partners with other campus entities, such as prospective student services and concurrent enrollment, to raise specialized funds, give programmatic updates, administer surveys, and more.
