Moreover, the Eemshaven meets all maritime requirements. The Eemshaven offers a wide range of opportunities for the offshore wind sector, in order to meet the next years developments with respect to more than 1000 new buildings of wind turbines. To serve the fast moving sector of offshore wind, Eemshaven demonstrates to be a hub for offshore windparks on the North Sea. Follow the energy and you will find your way to Eemshaven. Recently, this seaport has developed into one of the largest energy ports in the Netherlands. Eemshaven accounts for the onshore production of about 8,000 MW of energy. Moreover, being the operating base port for (planned) wind farms in the North Sea Eemshaven follows the offshore wind energy at the sea side. Energy production from the wind farms tracks the way to Eemshaven for inland distribution. It is not only the logistical connection between land and sea, but also the energy connection. Eemshaven is the energy junction of the Netherlands, and perhaps even of Northwest Europe! Follow the energy and get connected with Eemshaven. 4 EEMSHAVEN: GENERAL SETTINGS EEMSHAVEN HUB IN OFFSHORE WIND LOGISTICS Within nautical range of planned windfarms (low costs) Direct access to the North Sea Competitive purchase and lease prices Tax advantage for owners offshore vessels (ETR less than 5%) Multimodal accessibility (road, rail, water) Close to airport and rail Over 100 hectares offshore sites available Sufficient paived/unpaived storage area available (also adjacent to quay) Heavy cargo storage areas available Development of a heliport (2015) Experience in recent offshore windfarm projects Specialized stevedoring companies available: Orange Blue Terminals, Sealane, Wagenborg, and Wijnne Barends OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY The Dutch government wants renewable energy to meet at least 14% of the overall demand for energy in 2020 and 16% in Wind seems to be an auspicious option. The government clears the way for the realisation of 4450 MW offshore wind energy in the year Eemshaven is excellent situated, close to the North Sea, and well-equipped to accommodate logistic (offshore) projects. The last years it has been busy in Eemshaven regarding assembly and shipping activities of wind turbines. These have been destined for Bard 1 wind park and the 60 MW Alpha Ventus wind farm, which was the first offshore wind farm operational in German waters and other wind parks like Bard offshore I, Borkum West II, Riffgat, MEG offshore I and Riffgrund I. In the near future many offshore wind projects are planned, in which Eemshaven fits as a hub in offshore wind logistics. Denmark OFFSHORE TERMINAL EEMSHAVEN Many facilities are available in Eemshaven, like business sites, service locations, storage possibilities, (heavy) quays, etc. which makes this port excellent suitable as offshore hub. The distance to the wind farms (under construction) is short. It is only 23 nautical miles from Eemshaven to the nearest planned wind farm. CONNECTIONS Due to the uncongested roads and ports, and efficient logistics there are hardly any waiting times in the Eemshaven. Eemshaven has a direct road connection via N46 and N33 with the Dutch road system and is also directly connected tot the Dutch railway system. An airport is in the vicinity and a heliport will be developed. BEATRIXHAVEN: DEDICATED FOR OFFSHORE WIND FACILITY Beatrixhaven is the Eemshaven s youngest harbour basin. The first section of it was opened in 2008 by HRH Queen Beatrix, and it has been enlarged in phases since that time. With a length of 1160 metres Beatrixhaven is slightly shorter than Julianahaven, and a turning basin has been put in place at the end. The harbour was originally built as a short sea harbour, but has since developed into an offshore wind harbour. A special quay with a length of 220 metres has been built for extra heavy cargoes. Jack-up ships can moor just in front of the quay so that they can use their own cranes, and plenty of space is available for companies to establish their businesses. The heavy cargo quay has a maximum capacity (equally divided load) of 30 tons/m2 and has been especially designed for the transhipment of extra-heavy cargoes such as wind turbine components. On the southern side of the harbour a quay with a length of 1160 metres is available, and the stevedoring firm Wijnne Barends is established there. On the northern side AG Ems operates a passenger terminal with a ferry service to the German Wadden island of Borkum, and there are also offshore service facilities. Eemshaven already had a position as a hub in the offshore wind industry, but that has now been strengthened by the realisation of Beatrixhaven. 5 EMMAHAVEN: SERVICE PORT FOR MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES Thousands of wind turbines are being built in the North Sea over the coming years. Eemshaven is perfectly situated and well-equipped for both logistics and the offshore wind industry. In addition Eemshaven offers a wide range of opportunities for service and maintenance companies. With connections for power supply and fresh water, mooring/berthing facilities, storage possibilities and the presence of several logistic providers Eemshaven meets all requirements to accommodate maintenance and service companies. THE EMMAHAVEN The Emmahaven is 500 metres long with a width of 120 to 150 metres, and a depth of 9.0 metres. A floating jetty and a services jetty provide berthing places for small and medium sized vessels. It offers 700 metres of berthing places. At the northern part of the Emmahaven Sealane operates a quay of 130 metres for general and/or dedicated cargo. Furthermore, several sites for permanent use are available around the Emmahaven and can be bought or leased. It is also possible to rent existing locations or make use of existing facilities. SERVICE PORT The profile of Eemshaven answers to be a service port for activities with regard to the maintenance of offshore wind turbines. For the development of this function, Groningen Seaports orients towards a number of businesses. The surrounding of the Emmahaven will be designed for maintenance and service operators. Moreover, dedicated jetties for crew tenders and supply vessels will be constructed to this location. Currently, the layout is being indicated for both land and waterside. Required infrastructure and mooring facilities are cleared for the western part of this port basin. The first maintenance company has already been established here: WP Offshore. FACILITIES There are sufficient berthing places for small and medium sized vessels in the Emmahaven and it is possible to embark passengers. Besides that, plenty of storage areas are available: paved or unpaved, outside and/or in warehouses. The areas are suitable for the storage of containers. Moreover, the Emmahaven disposes connections for power (220 VAC and 380 VAC), fresh-water, and offers possibilities for fuel bunkering and grey water disposal. Furthermore, several sites for permanent use are available around the Emma- or Beatrixhaven and can be bought or leased. It is also possible to rent existing locations or make use of existing facilities. Next to that ECN will realize onshore locations for testing prototypes of future offshore wind turbines near Eemshaven and will construct a starting and landing site for helicopters close to the Eemshaven. It is expected that the heliport will be operational in LOGISTIC PROVIDERS Specialized stevedoring companies have been established in Eemshaven like Orange Blue Terminals, Sealane, Wagenborg and Wijnne Barends. 7 HELIPORT EEMSHAVEN OFFSHORE WIND TEST SITE EEMSHAVEN In recent years Eemshaven has become the backdrop to large-scale activities concerning the assembly and shipping of wind turbines. For the next years many wind park initiatives are planned for the North Sea as well. Eemshaven is able to play a key role in maintaining and repairing these planned wind turbines. Therefore a starting and landing site for helicopters will be constructed close to the Eemshaven. All required procedures are under development and it is expected that the heliport Eemshaven will be operational in ECN, Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands, together with Groningen Seaports will realize an offshore wind test site within close vicinity of Eemshaven. This test site will have the following specifications: 6 Onshore test locations for future offshore wind turbines with the following dimensions: - Up to 15 MW - Up to 180 m hub height - Up to 230 m rotor diameter Excellent wind climate > 8 m/s at 100 m height Excellent transport facilities either by road or over water Up to 4 additional prototype locations available in 2017 search zone heliport LOCATION Below a visualisation is shown with the planned test site location west of Eemshaven and several test turbines in Eemshaven TEST TURBINES EEMSHAVEN 1. 8 STEVEDORING COMPANIES VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING: WIND TECHNICIANS The Orange Blue Terminal Eemshaven ensures loading, unloading and port services. Eemshaven stands out its excellent infrastructure and handling conditions for offshore wind parks and is therefore the ideal home port for wind energy projects in the North Sea. We recognised the potential of this business location at an early stage. Since July 2011 the new Orange Blue Terminal is available for business round the clock - backed by the comprehensive expertise and many years of experience of the Buss Group. Eemshaven has ideal logistics proximity to 21 wind farms, adequate draught for construction vessels, appropriate space to handle all the components required and adequate quay length for efficient transhipment operations. Wijnne Barends offers more than 15,000 square metres of sheltered storage at Beatrixhaven in the Eemshaven (the Short Sea Basin). Located directly by the sea the port can handle ships transporting cargo to and from the European ports thereby saving about six hours sailing. The Wijnne Barends quay in the Eemshaven extends to 400 metres. Three 100-metre ships can be handled simultaneously along this quay. Sealane was established in 1979 in the (at the time) brand new Eemshaven Seaport in the North of the Netherlands. Sealane stores, handles, tranships and distributes both dry, general and conditioned cargo shipped in either by sea or by road. We have 2 stevedoring terminals close to the entrance of the port. Sealane provides door-to-door distribution and forwarding services. We offer a comprehensive package of shipping agency services to ships calling in at Eemshaven. Sealane and Nor Lines A/S run a weekly liner service between Eemshaven and Norway. We offer a comprehensive package of agency services to ships calling in at Eemshaven including bunkering, provisions, crew changes. Wagenborg has a modern multipurpose terminal in the port of Eemshaven. The quay has a length of 1,400 metres and roll-on roll-off facilities and a great depth. The storage capacity of Wagenborg is 140,000 m 2. Goods from the Netherlands and Germany are stored and loaded into ships by Wagenborg. Loads for the Northwest European markets find their way through the modern transshipment terminal in Delfzijl over land and water. Working in technology means working in an industry that is continuously developing. In addition this industry offers plenty of challenges and opportunities to learn and to grow. To emphasize the diversity in this profession and to encourage students to develop in as many aspects of technology as possible, Noorderpoort Eemsdollard School for Energy & Maritime has joined forces with other leading companies in the region and has started the Support AOT Noord Foundation and the MyTec education streams. The MyTec education streams provide students with a broad understanding of technology as well as the skills and competences to become specialists in the field of mechanics, electronics and instrumentation, operational technology, maritime and wind energy. 10 SOIL CONDITIONS EEMSHAVEN SUITABLE FOR JACKING The port of Eemshaven is situated in the north of the Netherlands at the river Ems close to Germany, bordering the Wadden Sea. Most of the port area is reclaimed land outside the primary dikes. The area has been raised with 4 to 5 m sand, therefore providing stable soil conditions for on-shore developments. JULIANA- AND BEATRIXHAVEN BASINS Based on cone penetration tests a W-E profile has been constructed directly North of the western part of the Juliana harbour basin. The depth of the soil profile is 50 m starting at approximately NAP+4,5 m. The profile shows a sandy top layer to approximately NAP -15 m, followed by a layer of clayey silt, silty clay to NAP-19 m/ NAP-23 m. Underneath follows generally a well compacted sand layer. FIGURE 1 >> Soil profile W-E North side western part of the Julianahaven basin (length profile appr. 600 m.). The soil profile shown in figure 1 gives an impression of the soil conditions of this part of the Eemshaven. Variations can occur depending on the exact area of interest. JACK-UP VESSELS Jack-up vessels frequently visited Eemshaven during the last years. Due to the recent offshore wind farm projects these vessels frequently visit Eemshaven to load heavy equipment required for the construction of these wind farms. The depth of the Juliana harbour basin varies between NAP-14 m and NAP-17 m. For jack-up vessels visiting the Juliana harbour leg penetration analysis have been carried out based on cone penetration tests. These results indicate that for loads between 150 Mega Newton and 250 Mega Newton penetrations between 4 m to 7 m below the seabed are to be expected. The legs penetrate the silty clay layer but penetration in the underlying sands is limited. The maximum safe proximity of the legs of a jack-up vessel to the quay depend on the penetration depth of the legs. In order not to endanger the stability of the quay walls, leg penetration is not allowed in the passive zone of the quay walls. Depending on the exact loads, quay and soil conditions distances from 15 m are to be expected. Please note that calculations of leg penetration and safe distance of legs to the quay wall are mandatory before acquiring permission from the harbour board. NEAR QUAY JACKING BEATRIXHAVEN From Q jack-up vessels can moor in the Beatrixhaven just in front of the quay. That means these vessels can use their own cranes for loading activities
