1 Job Rotation Chart During this term, instead of randomly choosing which job you want every week, there will be a rotation you cycle through. Don t forget there must always be a Discussion Director. Everyone else will cycle through the other jobs. Make a tally mark time you do a job to help you keep track of your rotations. 2 Discussion Director 1. Your job is to guide the discussion during your lit. circle meeting. You will ask questions for your group to talk about and make sure that everyone takes turns sharing their ideas. 2. Read your reading assignment carefully and make sure you really understand it. 3. Write 4-5 questions for your group to answer about the reading.

3 Literary Luminator 1. Your job is to get your group to think about specific parts of what you read. 2. Pick two passages from your reading that you want to share with your group. Mark each passage with a post-it note. Practice reading them aloud and be prepared to read them aloud to your group. Record the pages of where you found each passage. 3. Why did you choose passage one? Write about your choice in the space below. (Page ) Question about Passage 4. Why did you choose passage two? Write about your choice in the space below. 4 Word Wizard 1. Your job is to share with your group the meanings of specific words from what you read. 2. Select five words from your reading to share with your group. They could be words that are hard, cool, funny, interesting, different, strange, or words that teach you something new. Write the words and the page number below. 5 Illustrator 1. Your job is to help your group visualize one paragraph that you read. Every single detail in the paragraph should be represented in your illustration. Page 2. Before you share your illustration with your group, read the paragraph that your illustration came from. Then explain, in detail, how you incorporated the ideas in the paragraph into your illustration.

6 Connector 1. Your job is to discuss ways that you and your group members were able to connect with the story. 2. As you read your assignment, find passages that you are able to make a connection with. Mark these passages with a sticky note. Include the page numbers of the passage. Describe how you connected with these passages. Include details on your feelings, similar experiences, or reactions you had while reading. 3. When you meet with your group, do the following: o Read the marked passage aloud. o Share your connection with the passage, o Ask your group members if they share that connection or if there are other places in the story that they connect with.

7 Summarizer Pages 1. Your job is to summarize the section that you just read. Read your assignment carefully. Be sure that you understand it very well. 2. Remember that a summary highlights the main points of the chapter. Even though it is written in your own words, a summary does not include your opinions of the chapter. 3. When you meet with your group: Share your summary and ask your group members a question about one of the events you summarized: Question:

8 Researcher 1. Your job is to research a topic, location, plant, food, invention, ANYTHING in the story you want to learn more about, and write about what you found. Share this information with your group to help them better understand what you researched. This might include printing out a picture for a visual aid. 9 Trait Tracker 1. Your job as the trait tracker is to identify a character s actions (traits) and explain or prove these traits/qualities. You need to be aware that the character traits you will choose will be implied character traits. You do not want to use words like good, bad, nice, and mean.
