2 CHRY is a community-based, non-profit, volunteer run radio station that has been serving the North Toronto community for 25 years. We believe in professional and guided programming that reflects the diverse issues and cultures in the surrounding areas. Our mandate is to provide alternative programming such as music, especially Canadian music, not generally heard on commercial stations. Although students play an important role in programming, we also provide access to members of the community at large. We are looking for a professional team player who can think creatively; take constructive criticism and who is comfortable working in an ethnically diverse, anti-oppressive workplace. The ideal candidate is looking to enter a career in advertising, television, radio or marketing. Note: This is an unpaid internship. Write creative, concise radio copy for CHRY s advertising clients to time. Research client needs and determine solutions to solve problems through the language of creative radio. Edit and prepare scripts for recording sessions. Track and file scripts. Assist with scheduling, directing and running recording sessions. Assist in training volunteers in copy writing. Other duties as assigned. Expert command of English. (A second language is a huge asset, but not a requirement.) Copy editing skills. Excellent communication, time-management, organization and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills in Windows and MS Office. Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a post-secondary institution for broadcasting, creative advertising or marketing. Comfortable working in a progressive, ethnically diverse, inclusive, professional environment. Able to take constructive criticism and adapt to rapid change. The ideal candidate is looking to enter a career in radio, advertising, audio post-production or digital media. Note: This is an unpaid internship. Record, edit and mix radio spots and features to CHRY and professional audio standards using a variety of software. (Sony Sound Forge, Adobe Audition, Sony Vegas, Audacity). Work with various CHRY departments and provide production support on their projects. Maintain the production studio, computers and other audio equipment. Assist in training volunteers in production. A strong command of English. (A second language is a huge asset, but not a requirement.) Demonstrated skills running digital audio workstations (DAWs): ProTools, Logic, Adobe Audition, Sony Sound Forge or similar along with VST plug-ins. Demonstrated understanding of digital and analog audio theory: EQ, filtering, compression, reverb, delay, audio levels, normalizing. Excellent teamwork, communication, time-management, organization and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills in MS Windows and Office, working in a network environment, using radio automation software. Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a post-secondary institution for broadcasting, audio production or digital media. Comfortable working in a progressive, ethnically diverse, inclusive, professional environment. Able to take direction, constructive criticism and adapt to rapid change. As an alternative news outlet, News Now works as a team to collectively share skills and tasks among ourselves. 7 THE NEW WAX SHOW is CHRY s local music news program; live every Tuesday 3-4pm broadcasting to the North Toronto region, the campus of York University and on the web. CHRY FM is looking for critical and creative minds to join the only locally focused music news and lifestyle radio program in Toronto. We offer FREE broadcast skills training in: writing/voicing, interviewing, audio editing and sound design. The position of New Wax Producer will work closely with New Wax reporters, script writers, techs and host with the direction of the Music Director to coordinate a high-quality and timely delivery of weekly New Wax features and segments. As an alternative news outlet, New Wax volunteers work as a team to collectively share skills and tasks. We are also committed to challenging ourselves and analyzing our stories individually at regular story meetings. Scheduling story submissions and ensuring timely story submissions with New Wax Reporters Guiding NW Reporters/Contributors on audio quality, creative sound design and on-air delivery Checking content for material that breaches our mandate Producing show runsheet/script and organizing story submissions in database Ensuring program logs are filled out and broadcast policies followed Leading New Wax story meetings to solicit new material and ideas for the program Scheduling NW volunteers into various on and off-air positions as needed. Open-minded to various perspectives in alternative, socially engaging programming. Strong interest in non-mainstream and local music. Coordinating on-campus and off campus tabling opportunities to promote the brand of CHRY RADIO Responsible for the tabling set-up and preparing the scheduling requirements for each opportunity Assisting with event coordination special events i.e. YorkFETE and Battle of the Playlist and/or live remotes Booking live appearances for the station to market its brand outside of the York Community Coordinating the calendar of events Organizing an inventory of all promo materials needed for tabling or live appearance opportunities Write scripts for hosts and programmers Responsible for handling all aspect of promoting a special event using social media i.e. Twitter and Facebook, blasts, writing radio script promo Must be available on certain weekends for events support Expert command of English. (A second language is a huge asset, but not a requirement.) Copy editing and Copy writing skills Able to design or create posters needed to promote special events (if necessary) Tech Savy owns a smartphone or access to equipment that can instantly upload images or video to social media outlets Access to a vehicle valid G-Class driver s license Excellent communication, time-management, organization and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills in Windows and MS Office. Able to work independently at home or in the CHRY office.
