1 1. Name: Bursaries 2. Purpose: The is committed, through two bursaries, to financially assist the first year of post secondary education for two students who are residents of School District #43 (Coquitlam) in a degree program, the skills of which may be applied to improving the living standards of people in the underdeveloped countries of the world. 3. Bursary: Two bursaries in the amount of $2,000 will be awarded on an annual basis. 4. Criteria for Granting the Bursary: The Bursaries are to be awarded to students who: are residents of School District #43 (Coquitlam) and who are graduating from a public or separate secondary school; have been accepted into an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution and who intend to major in a degree program, the skills of which could be applied to improving the living standards of people in the underdeveloped countries of the world. (i.e. Humanities, Civil Engineering, Nursing); demonstrate personal qualities of leadership, citizenship, and compassion; and would otherwise be restricted financially from pursuing further studies in a post secondary institution. 5. Criteria for Administering the Bursary: The Directors of the Bursary shall be the Community Service Chair and two other Rotarians who will be appointed annually. The contact person for the shall be the Community Service Chair or a Rotarian appointed by the Community Service Chair. The will advise the School District #43 (Coquitlam) Scholarship Committee chairperson in writing by February 28 of each year confirming the number and amount of the bursaries for the coming year. The notification will include the name and phone number of the contact Rotarian. The completed bursary application form shall be sent by the applicants to the School District #43 (Coquitlam) Scholarship Committee chairperson or designate by March 31. The School District #43 (Coquitlam) Scholarship Committee shall recommend three bursary recipient candidates, together with the reasons for recommendation, to the Bursary contact person. The winner of the bursary and the School District #43 (Coquitlam) Scholarship Committee will be advised in writing from the. The bursary cheque(s) will be presented to the recipient at a Rotary meeting once the School District Secretary-Treasurer receives proof of registration and course payment. 6. Conditions for Accepting the Bursary: A student who accepts the bursary shall agree to either prepare an article for publication in the Rotary Club of Coquitlam Sunrise ebulletin or address a regular Tuesday morning meeting of the Rotary Club of Coquitlam Sunrise. The subject is to relate to their program of study and is to take place upon completion of their first year

2 of study. The article or presentation should demonstrate how the student could apply their new knowledge to improve the living standards of people in the underdeveloped countries of the world.

5 The Bursaries are to be awarded annually to two students who: are graduating from a school in one of School District #43 s secondary schools and who resides in within School District #43 (Coquitlam); plan to enter a program which will lead to a degree, the skills of which could be applied to improving the living standards of the people of the underdeveloped world; demonstrate acceptable academic achievement such that successful completion of the degree program is reasonably assured; and demonstrate personal qualities of leadership, citizenship and compassion and would otherwise be restricted financially from pursuing a course of studies outlined in the previous bullet. The bursary cheques will be presented to the recipients after the School District Secretary-Treasurer receives proof of registration and proof of course payment.
