6 ÓBIDOS PORTUGAL Small cities great visions Project: Creative Clusters in Low Density Urban Areas ABC Incubator for creative industries related to Technology Park of Óbidos, universities installed in a unique building - an old convent with flexible work spaces for start-ups linked to Cinema Village, Content production, Scenography, Entertainment and Acting, Music, Graphic Design, Marketing and Advertising, Multimedia Obidos participation in URBACT II: Project Creative Clusters in Low Density Urban Areas 7 EU partners, funded by ERDF and National Budgets Obidos total funding required for its vast integrated operation of which is the project is part: 80 M

8 Creative Credits pilot programme NESTA UK NESTA is the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts - an independent body with a mission to make the UK more innovative Creative Credits: how did it work? Manchester with high concentration of creative firms First business to business voucher scheme in the UK Implemented through online market place The Creative Gallery No picking winners randomised selection 150 vouchers of 4,000 distributed to 79 businesses SMEs had to invest minimum of 1,000 themselves Evaluation: Credits stimulated projects that would not otherwise have taken place and have accelerated innovation projects haidee.bell@nesta.org.uk

9 The North East Angel Seed Fund UK A matching seed fund to support early stage business The RDA in NE England applied to EIB for JEREMIE funding EIB & ERDF provided about 90M and RDA provided about 35M 6 seeds funds were established in April 2010 with sectoral focus (one for KIS companies) The 125M public money will achieve at least 250M total investment in early stage business ventures Outcome in the first 9 months 900 companies have applied for funding under this scheme, 73 companies funded since 1st April 2010, 30.5 million invested to date of which 14M public money over 700k cash return already EIB loan interest repaid

10 Mobile Heights The public-private partnership by Ericsson Mobile Platforms (EMP), SonyEricsson, Lund Technical University and Region Skåne - Sweden Mission A foundation for internationally competitive and growing companies in mobile communications through world-class research, education and attractive power Specific objectives are: - strengthen the competitiveness of member organizations - attract to the region new talent and human resources, facilitating the growth of member organizations - attract new companies to the region and grow the number of members of Mobile Heights. - increase relevant research at universities and colleges in the region. An industrial excellence centre on service innovation: - developing and exploring new methods for working in an open and interdisciplinary value network, which integrates technology, user value, and business knowledge bases between academia and industry - overall funding of in 2009 from EU Structural Funds for regional development, company s membership fees and additional financing Read more:
