The ExcelCare Hemvård is a quality product. The policy of Van Os Medical UK Ltd is to continually improve the quality and reliability of our products. We reserve the right, therefore, without prior notification, to alter this guide. It is important that your guide for the use of the electric adjustable bed is read carefully. The manual contains important information about the safe use and maintenance of your electric adjustable bed. We recommend that you keep this guide, it's also your proof of warranty and you will find it useful for referring to at a later date. The safety instructions in this guide are general guidelines that must be seen as broad guidelines. It is possible that you develop your own ways for many common actions. However, we advise you to consult a professional for assistance in developing safe and effective techniques with regards to your daily activities and your physical capabilities. Your new electric adjustable bed requires frequent maintenance, much of which you can do yourself. We want you to take your electric adjustable bed once a year to be inspected by a professional. 4 1. Identification Your electric adjustable bed is equipped with a unique identification number. You can find this number on the cross frame of your electric adjustable bed. Below is an example of the frame label on which you can find the identification number. Furthermore you will find the explanation of the various data stored on the frame label listed below Production date The date on which your electric adjustable bed was manufactured. 2. Serial number Every electric adjustable bed electric adjustable bed has its own unique identification number. You must have this number when making technical requests or if warranty parts are required. 3. Maximum user weight The largest occupant weight allowed for protection of both the electric adjustable bed and the user. 4. Type number This number indicates which model of electric adjustable bed you have, again this is always required when making technical calls. 5. Model name The model name of your electric adjustable bed starts with the brand name Excel. The brand name Excel is followed by an additional model description that forms the model name of your ExcelCare Hemvård. 6. Description Description of your electric adjustable bed. 7. Warranty Here is the guarantee period of your electric adjustable bed. Chapter 9 describes your warranty terms and conditions in more detail. ~ 3 ~

You should know these before continue reading this manual. Designs and specifications may change without prior notice. General explanation of your electric adjustable bed Your electric adjustable bed is designed to replace the home bed and in this way to improve the independency. Making transfers and the dayly care will be simplified 3. Safety regulations Van Os Medical UK Ltd specifically disclaims responsibility for anybody injury or property damage which may occur during any use which does not comply with laws or ordinances. If used correctly, the ExcelCare electric adjustable bed electric adjustable bed is an utmost safe and stable product, if the instructions for use as described in this manual are followed. However, it is possible when the ExcelCare electric adjustable bed is not used correctly, dangerous situations may occur. 3.1 General safety regulations Protect your ExcelCare electric adjustable bed by checking it regularly. When a part of your ExcelCare electric adjustable bed is not functioning properly, a dangerous situation could occur. You must keep your electric adjustable bed in a good condition to ensure safety in use. Periodical inspection, correct adjustment of your electric adjustable bed and timely replacement of damaged and worn parts will result in use for years without any problems. A qualified Van Os Medical UK Ltd dealer, who will use only Van Os Medical UK Ltd replacement parts, will take care of your electric adjustable bed to ensure a long lifetime. When the electric adjustable bed is being used for the care of patients with small body sizes should be noted that there is a risk that the patient slips through the openings of the bed fences or through the opening between the bed fences and the mattress support. ~ 4 ~

6 3.2 Warnings for safe use Warnings: - The electric adjustable bed may not be used by patients under the age of 12 or by patients who have similar body size or are smaller than an average 12 years old person; - The maximum user weight of 180 kg may not be exceeded; - The electric adjustable bed may not be used by persons who weighs less than 45 kg, who are smaller than 150 cm or by persons who suffer from spasms or confusion unless there has been a professional risk analysis and is accepted ; - Check if the electric adjustable bed is in the lowest position before you leave the bed unintended. The risk for accidents like falling down of trapping will be reduced; - Check if all cables are correctly mounted and can t be drilled. If the cables shows wear spots or damages they need to be replaced right away! - Make sure that the power cord can t be run over while moving the bed; - Make sure you pull out the plug out of the socket before moving the electric adjustable bed; - Never use the electric adjustable bed if an object sticks through the bed fences; - Make sure there are no objects around the electric adjustable bed when you adjust the height; - Always put the brakes on the wheels when using the electric adjustable bed; - Make sure the bed fences are fully upwards when using the electric adjustable bed and check if they are correctly engaged. Please pay attention that the fences are equally with the floor if the fences are in an angle a dangerous occasion may occur; - Never grab something through the bed fences; - Never use any electrical equipment on the bed; - Make sure to pay attention to the environment of the patient and the bed while using the electric adjustable bed; - Check if all parts are correctly mounted every time you use the electric adjustable bed; - Check if all parts are functioning correctly; - Always make sure that the patient can never slide under or through the bed fences! - Van Os Medical UK Ltd. Does not accept any responsibility for any use, modification or mounting of the product which isn t in accordance with this manual. 3.3 Safety tips Daily operations such as getting off the electric adjustable bed can be dangerous. You will need to perform these movements and techniques as shown below. Warning: - To simplify transferring you always need to adjust the height of the electric adjustment bed. Also you can adjust the backrest for support (see 4.1). You must make sure that the under leg part is horizontal otherwise there is a change of overloading the mattress support; - Make sure that the electric adjustable bed is at the lowest position when you re getting on or of off the electric adjustable bed. Getting in and out Transferring in to your electric adjustable bed is a difficult manoeuvre. Consult your physical therapist for assistance in developing your individual technique. If you have sufficient body strength and you want to transfer to and from the electric adjustable bed can you best do this in the following manner: Getting out Below are 2 manners described for the easiest way to get out depending on your situation; If you are able to sit up from a laying position: - Turn 90º and move your legs slowly downwards next to the bed; - If your feet can t reach the floor carefully move forwards until you reach the floor; - You can now get out of the bed. If you can t sit up from a laying position but you can independently get out of bed: - Move the backrest part upwards until you are in a sitting position with a straight back; - Turn 90º and move your legs slowly downwards next to the bed; - If your feet can t reach the floor carefully move forwards until you reach the floor; - You can now get out of the bed. ~ 5 ~

7 Getting in bed To get in to your electric adjustable bed you need to follow below steps but in reversed order. 4. Instructions for use Overall user manual You need to learn the parts of your electric adjustable bed and develop the safest methods for your dayly activity. Consult your physical therapist for assistance in developing your individual technique. 4.1 Using the remote By using the remote (picture 1) you can adjust your electric adjustable bed in different positions as shown below. Back adjustment; adjusting only the backrest of the bed. Fowler position; this will adjust the electric adjustable bed in to the fowler position. This will tilt the backrest in combination with the upper leg support and the lower leg support. Footrest support adjustment; you will only adjust the footrest support. Height adjustment; you can adjust the height of the bed. Picture 1 Trendelenburg / Anti-trendelenburg position Trendelenburg position; the bottom will be tilted completely. This will bring the foot end higher than the head end. Anti-trendelenburg position; this will cause the opposite of the trendelenburg position. The head end will be higher than the foot end. 4.2 Using the lifting pole You can adjust the height and depth of the triangle of the lifting pole. Adjusting the height You can adjust the height of the triangle of the lifting pole see picture 2. Adjusting the depth You can adjust the depth of the triangle. You can do this by pulling the loop of the triangle and move it forwards or backwards see picture Using the brakes Picture 2 Picture 3 The electric adjustable bed has four wheels. All of the wheels have brakes on it. Below is an description how you can put the brakes on the wheels and how you get the wheels of off the brakes. Warning: Always make sure that all wheel are on the brake! ~ 6 ~

8 Putting the brake on the wheel Push with your foot on biggest part that s sticking out of the brake, see picture 4. Taking the brake of off the wheel Push with your foot on the upper part of the brake see picture Using the mattress holders Picture 4 Picture 5 Warning: Make sure that you spread the four mattress holders on the mattress support as following: 1 at the head end left, 1 at the head end right, 1 at the foot end left and 1 at the foot end right. You can move the mattress holders as following; - Turn both starknobs loose. You can find them at the bottom of the mattress holder see picture 6; - You can now move the mattress holder. 9 4.5 Using the bed fences You can move the bed fences up and downwards. Move them only when you are next to the electric adjustable bed. Moving the bed fences downwards - Tilt the upper bed fence first; - Push with your other hand the black knob at the foot end see picture 7; - Gently guide the bed fences with both hands downwards; - Do the same on the other side of the electric adjustable bed; - Both bed fences are completely downwards. Moving the bed fences upwards - Tilt the bed fences per side of the electric adjustable bed see picture 8; - Guide them with both hands upwards; - You will hear a click which confirms the bed fences are correctly stuck; - Do the same with the other side of the electric adjustable bed; 5. Under normal circumstances let your electric adjustable bed checked once a year. 7. Trouble shouting guide Tip Check if the electric adjustable bed is plugged in on the AC power. Cleaning Your electric adjustable bed cannot withstand cleaning with high pressure spraying. Use only normal disinfection cleaning products. Always dry the electric adjustable bed after cleaning. Never use acids, alkalis or solvents. Always check if the plug is out of the socket. 9. Warranty 9.1 Warranty application Together with your electric adjustable bed you get the factory warranty. However, it is possible that your dealer offers a supplementary warranty. This manual only handles the factory warranty as given by Van Os Medical UK Ltd. This warranty is only granted to you as the consumer. It is not intended to be used commercially (like hiring or institutional use). The warranty is limited to defects to materials and possible hidden shortages. Van Os Medical UK Ltd guarantees the following warranty periods: COMPONENT A) Electric adjustable bed B) Lögn mattress 9.2 Warranty definition Your manual is also the warranty form, fill in the relevant details and store it carefully. Warranty conditions The warranty period commences upon the date of purchase. If within the warranty period, your electric adjustable bed will be defect, it will be repaired or replaced. However you do need to provide to Van Os Medical UK Ltd a complete filled in warranty registration form or a copy of the bill with date of purchase. Without a warranty registration form or a proof of the purchase date the warranty will start at the date when Van Os Medical UK Ltd sent the invoice to the dealer. ~ 10 ~

12 Repairs and replacement must be performed by an authorized Van Os Medical UK Ltd service agent. To qualify for the warranty, your electric adjustable bed aan de must require the care standards. Furthermore, if a problem occurs, you need to fully inform the Van Os Medical UK Ltd service agent immediately. If you use the electric adjustable bed outside the designated area of the Van Os Medical UK Ltd service agent, you can repair your electric adjustable bed by any other, by the factory approved, service agent. When parts of the electric adjustable bed (with exception of the mattress), within 24 months after the commence date, needs reparation or replacement, as a result of a manufactory or material error and the electric adjustable bed is with its first owner, the part or parts will be repaired or replaced free of charge. Tip This warranty is not transferrable. This warranty does not include any labour charges incurred by replacements. Replaced or repaired parts fall under the same warranty conditions as the original electric adjustable bed. Worn parts are normally not guaranteed, unless these parts are worn as a direct result of an original manufacturer defect. These parts are for example upholstery, tyres, inner tubes and similar kinds of parts. Under normal circumstances no responsibility is accepted when the electric adjustable bed needs replacement or repairs as a direct result from: 1. Not maintaining the electric adjustable bed and parts according to the recommendations of the manufacturer or not using the specific original parts; 2. Damaging the electric adjustable bed or parts by inattentive use, accident or wrong use; 3. Adjusting the electric adjustable bed or parts, different from the specifications of the manufacturer or reparations done before the service agent is warned. 4. If the product is not equipped with an original factory frame number and identification label as described in the manual, see chapter 1. The electric adjustable bed wheelchair that is described and showed in this manual can differ from your own model in details. However, all instructions are relevant, independent of slightly different details. We reserve the right to change the product in this manual without further notice. All drawings, measures and capacities showed in this manual, are approximations and may be slightly different to the specifications. Warning: Van Os Medical UK Ltd cannot be liable for any consequent or individual damage whatsoever. While this manual is created with care it is not exclusive. If you are going to use the electric adjustable bed not in accordance with the guidelines in this manual you need to consult with an authorized Van Os Medical UK Ltd dealer. The warranty is only valid during the indicated period. If adjustments are made to the electric adjustable bed who have structural impact on the product, the warranty will expire completely. For warranty service, contact your authorised dealer from where you bought your electric adjustable bed. If it occurs that you are not helped to your satisfaction concerning the warranty service, please contact Van Os Medical UK Ltd in writing. 13 10. Service checklist For optimal life your electric adjustable bed should be periodically maintained by an authorized dealer. Service interval:... The sliding system of the wooden bed fence should not be lubricated with oil, because then they will move stiffly. It may therefore be that in your case, the electric adjustable bed requires servicing more or less often than once a year. Tip Maintenance is not warranty.
