2 Highfield Humanities College tmosphere/ethos Visitors to Highfield Humanities College often comment on the warmth and happiness they sense. We encourage a pride of ownership in every member of our school community. The high schools throughout the authority face challenges specific to Blackpool. Highfield is playing an active part in the authority s push to raise standards of attainment at Key Stage 4. Working with Tauheedul Education Trust and the local authority to produce sustainable improvements over the next few years. We are not in any way, complacent. Whoever is appointed to our staff will be expected to work hard and devote considerable energy to raise standards at every opportunity. Each member of staff is expected to demonstrate creative flair and an understanding of, and empathy with, our children and to share our aims and values, which the community has come to expect of Highfield Humanities College. Our mission cannot be seen as mere words. The motto, Working together, permeates our school and the expectations which we have of ourselves and our pupils is demonstrated rather than merely expressed. We have, for the third, time achieved Investor in People status, this incorporates the Worklife Balance module that recognises how committed we are to quality service and also to the individual, supporting the demands of working in school with the need to maintain a perspective and ability to deal with these demands. The School In September 2012 we moved into our new school. The building is designed around a number of Learning Zones. The school is designed to provide an environment that allows flexibility of learning and organisational arrangements that respond to the needs of individuals and groups of pupils. The way in which the zones are linked to the curriculum areas are: 2nd Floor - Languages and Communication, Humanities Specialist and rt 1st Floor - (essentially STEM related learning) Science and Technology (Specialist reas) Maths and ICT Ground Floor - Expressive rts and Technology (Specialist reas) dditional Needs (inc SEN) 2

3 Highfield Humanities College Job Description Post Title: School Support ssistant (Level 2) Reporting to: SENDCo Liaising with: Staff, pupils and parents/carers and external agencies as appropriate Working time: Term time + INSET (5 days) Salary/Grade: Scale C Disclosure: Enhanced Key Key ccountabilities Responsibilities: To work with teachers to support teaching and learning by working with individuals or groups of pupils under the direction of teaching staff and may be responsible for some learning activities within the overall teaching plan Implement planned learning activities / teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to pupils responses and resolving related problems as appropriate; Participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities with the teacher for the session, day or week and providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour; Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress / activities; Provide feedback to pupils in relation to attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher; Communicates with pupils to promote learning, including assessing the impact of the communication on recipients and adjusting approach as necessary; Support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons / activities under the direction of the teacher; Responsible for the careful and safe use equipment, such as play and standard ICT equipment; Support pupils in social, health and emotional well- being, drawing any problems which cannot be resolved to the attention of the teacher; Share information about pupils with other staff, parents / carers, as appropriate; Understand and support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils as required; ssist in the development of individual development plans for pupils (such as Individual Educational Plans); Support the work of volunteers and other teaching assistants in the classroom; Support the use of ICT in the curriculum; ssist with break- time supervision including facilitating games and activities; Invigilate exams and tests; ssist in escorting and supervising pupils on educational visits and out of school activities; Other Duties: Play a full part in the life of the school community, supporting its distinctive mission and ethos, encouraging and ensuring staff and pupils follow this example, including representing the school in a professional and positive light at all times to all stakeholders To be a full and active member of the EN Team, assisting and covering for colleagues in the area when necessary (short term) Highfield is an inclusive school and expects all colleagues to support in the behaviour 3
