1 DIGITAL WIRELESS TELEFONE SYSTEM Offer number 0138 Digital Wireless Telecom Network Presentation overview. About A. Telecom An Overview of A. Strategy Why Wireless The Network Service Provision Equipment Overview Technical Specifications Any Questions About A. Scottish owned and operated Over 240,000 business/residential customers Employed over 1200 people Offered a full range of business/residential communication services covering voice, data and Internet Highly resilient national wireless network Due to market forces within the IT/Telecoms industry causing the fall in all communication companies share prices, A. Bank withdrew funding availability as part of their rationalisation process. A. elected to go into voluntary administration leading to the closure of the business
2 An Overview of A. Strategy Staged rollout(city by city/ town by town) Targeted Large Business areas for greater returns on initial investment Focus then shifted to SME market and then residential Played to the network strengths (i.e quality/reliability and security, to attract new customers) The core targeted market was Voice and Data communications Why Wireless. Cost of infrastructure deployment is a fraction of that required to build a traditional copper/fibre network (eg. in Britain NTL/Telewest per metre of cable dig). The cost of customer connection with this wirless system was exactly the same whether the customer was 20 meters or 2km from the base site Rollout extremely fast compared to traditional copper/fibre network (2 man team can connect 4 new customer per day) Resilience is far greater, as equipment is less susceptible to damage from external forces (e.g Road works/vandalism etc) Greater call security as no physical line to intercept Linear costing as no speculation required for customer penetration levels; only install infrastructure to customer premises as required. Network. Based upon Radio Station Sites, each with 1km radius coverage Due to the requirement for line of sight, base station antennas were positioned on high telecom s masts or buildings Base stations fed back either directly to the exchange or to the exchange via a radio network
3 Radio backhaul network was by a mixture of PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy) and SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) radios as well as some fibre links Service Provision Business Telephony - Direct Service Residential Telephony Direct Service Business Data Residential Data Internet Equipment Overview 137 (90 guaranteed) base stations each with a cabinet containing a radio controller, global timing unit, power supplies (inc. battery backup), 18 sets of microwave antennas giving 360 degree coverage to customers, microwave radio for backhaul and X25 equipment for remote network management Each basic radio controller has the capability to service approx 1000 individual customer units (2000 phone lines) Superhubs used to collate PDH radio signals, which were then passed back in SDH form Very large quantity of spares for all aspects of the system Customer site antennas and power supplies Inventory available on request Technical Specifications Transmission 2.4GHz, 100mW Backhaul to exchange is V5.2 concentrator protocol over E1 s (2Mb connections) Frequency hops 500 times per
4 second Each antenna works with time division multiple access Fully digital signal up to customer premises Each customer antenna operates 2 independent telephone lines Works with standard telephones (2 wire, non polarised to master socket) Summary Ex-A. wireless national network Voice and Data ready Resilient and secure digital network Cost effective rapid deployment Business driven customer penetration Easy to expand New Price English Pound Its big enough to supply the whole of a country or state the size of Scotland. Price English Pound If necessary we send you the entire equipment list.
