8 ECONOMIC STRUCTURE Agriculture and Livestock The most important item in Edirne economy is agriculture and animal husbandry. A large part of production sites in the province consists agro-based industries. 55% of the land is used as farmland, 24% is used as forest and scrub areas, 10% is used as meadows and pastures. At the beginning of important agricultural products in the province of Edirne comes rice, sunflower and wheat. The land in area is very fertile. Provincial land productivity of wheat, sunflower and rice is proven by making the products as the world's highest average yield. In 2012 across our country has been created crop production value of about 88 billion. Thrace region provided 3.26% of it's. (Edirne compared to other provinces has produced more value of crop production generated per person.).

13 ECONOMIC STRUCTURE Industry We have approximately 271 registered industries and around 21,000 SME. Organized Industrial Zone of Edirne and still not operated Organized Industrial Zone of Kashan. A Technopark in University of Thrace. Processing of agricultural products industrialization in Thrace region began with small businesses. As of today has become the region within 1,941 industry organizations. Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology's according to the status report of the 81 provinces, in total industrial enterprises Edirne rates 0.3% among the provinces that are developing industry. 16 ECONOMIC STRUCTURE Sector of Services Services sector is an important sector in the province. But, its potential is not fully used. Services in the region, using the tourism potential and properties of being a border province, the industry can increase the pie. In Edirne an important factor that increases the weight of the services sector is our border crossings. In our province, including 2 railway has 6 custom serves. Dereköy, Hamzabeyli and Kapıkule border crossings exit to Bulgaria, İpsala Pazarkule border crossings and provide connections with Greece.

19 ECONOMIC STRUCTURE Export / Import Edirne industrial production is relatively undeveloped and is more dominant of agriculture and food industry. Edirne's export figures are low. According to data from the Ministry of Economy; The total amount of exports in 2013: $ 42,014,000 The amount of import: USD (January-November) Turkey is currently below the required level in the export of food products. The industry that is not developed, caused import figures to remain low.
