1 Sports Funding Following on from the London 2012 Olympics, the government has committed to providing additional funding to Primary Schools across the UK, for each academic year until The funding, which has been jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, is to be used for improving the provision of sporting activities and Physical Education (PE) lessons. It is 'ring-fenced', which means it can only be used for this purpose and not spent on anything else. Schools must spend the funding to improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils, but they are free to choose the best way of using the money. Possible uses of the funding include: Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside Primary teachers when delivering the PE part of the curriculum Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in sport and PE Running sport competitions Running sports activities with other schools Buying equipment to enhance sport and PE provision support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs During the 2013/14 academic year, Bredbury Green Primary School PE & Sports Funding paid for the following: Bredbury Green Primary School PE & Primary Sports Funding Report 2013/2014 Stockport Schools Sports Partnership Co-ordinator (SSSCo) Level 2 Buyback targeted intervention programmes school-based continuing professional development targeted healthy lifestyle programmes Change4Life specialist coaching provision (1 hour per week) 4,250 All the children have benefited from taking part in a range of new sports and sports-related activities.
