2 The place to learn Italian The place to learn Italian is the Italian Cultural Institute (Istituto Italiano di Cultura), the official Italian government centre for the promotion of culture in London, one of 90 Institutes around the world offering a wide choice of Italian language classes. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced, whether you want Italian for business or pleasure, we can help you perfect your language skills at a level that suits your needs, and times and days that suit your schedule. You can also continue to fine-tune your language skills after class. You can keep up to date with Italian culture by taking advantage of exciting Institute events, such as films, plays, concerts, lectures, books and poetry readings, and exhibitions. To find out more about our cultural programme or subscribe to our newsletter, just check our website Our students can also use our Library, with more than 25,000 volumes, plus periodicals and a large reference section. Come discover the world of Italy at the Italian Cultural Institute, the place to learn Italian. Our courses We offer General Italian courses on all levels, weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. In addition, there are morning or afternoon intensive courses, even a semiintensive course on Sundays. We can arrange private or group tuition, for individuals or companies. We also offer tuition via Skype. We offer nine progressive levels: Elementary (A1.1, A1.2, A2), Intermediate (B1.1, B1.2, B2), and Advanced (C1.1, C1.2, C2). Our linguistic levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEF, produced by the Council of Europe. This ensures uniformity and consistency of teaching in line with other language Institutions in London and across Europe. It s also possible to attend revision classes, Intermediate conversation classes, workshops including History of Art, Gastronomy, Cinema, Design and Fashion, Opera and Literature. And for advanced students who want to keep up their Italian, there is also a special course, Avanzato +. All our classes are conducted in Italian and provide training in all basic communication skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing - with a systematic study of grammar. Our teachers are university qualified and native speakers. Our classrooms have video and audio equipment, which also give the possibility of working online. Terms last for 10 weeks, and you can choose courses of 30 or 40 hours. Content is the same for both, which means the 40-hour course allows you more time to digest, learn and practice the material. This is just one example of our flexible approach. Your level Whether you are new to the language, totally fluent, or anything in between, we can help. Because we provide courses on so many different levels, you can rest assured you will be in the class that best matches your abilities and goals. What s more, courses on every level are given every term, so you can start whenever it s most convenient, in January, April or September. We also offer summer courses starting in July. Unless you are either a complete beginner or have studied at the Institute last term, a brief assessment test is compulsory to ensure we can meet your needs by placing you in the most appropriate class. You can take an assessment test in person or online. Assessment tests are given between and 16.30, Monday to Friday. If this is not convenient, please ring us during these hours on and we can set up an appointment for you. For an online assessment test, go to Of course, the time it takes to learn and perfect a foreign language varies from person to person. In addition to class attendance and time spent on homework, factors such as individual aptitude and the opportunity to practice with native speakers can make a difference. Our practical guide to linguistic levels explains what you can realistically expect. Going further... Examinations leading to the Certificate of Italian as a Foreign Language from the Universities of Perugia and Siena can be taken at the Italian Cultural Institute. Further information is available on , extension

15 «I ve enjoyed the course, it has a good balance between conversation, reading and listening skill» Teaching Italian as a foreign language This is a basic training programme for teachers of Italian as a foreign language. The duration of the course is 150 hours over 5 weeks, Monday to Frdiay, from 10am to 5pm. The course is made of methodology sessions, teaching practice and observations of professional teachers. Thanks to the practical nature of the course, participants will have the opportunity to teach in a classroom from the very first week, putting into practice the techniques learned during the methodology sessions while learning the underlying theoretical principals. The training takes place with the support and under the supervision of expert trainers. Towards the end of the course, there will be sessions focused on work opportunities, where trainers will provide practical advice and will show websites and lists of schools, agencies and universities that offer job opportunities for italian teachers. During the training, participants will learn to: - Plan a lesson and a whole course for different levels. - Use new technologies for language teaching and learning. - Create authentic materials. - Tailor textbook materials to specific needs. - Deliver both one-to-one and group lessons. At the end of the training participants will be awarded a certificate that is recognised and/or accepted by private schools and universities. The admission to the course is subject to an entry test and interview.
