2 Successes since Summer Term 2015

3 Early Years 73% of our Reception pupils achieved a good level of development. This was 12% higher than the national level.

4 Y1 Phonics Screening 98% of our Y1 pupils (all bar one deaf pupil) passed the national Phonics Screening Test; 21% higher than national. We received a congratulatory letter from DFE stating that we were in the top 1% of schools nationally.

5 KS1 Assessments KS1 (Year 2) achievement in Reading, Writing and Mathematics improved at all levels in 2015 compared to 2014 for the third year running. Achievement at all levels in all subjects was well above national despite the fact 5 pupils or 10% of cohort were profoundly deaf.

6 KS2 Attainment & Achievement KS2 (Year 6) attainment and achievement was outstanding. 98% of pupils achieved expected Level 4 in Maths & SPAG. 94% in Reading. Each result 12% to 20% higher than national. 83% achieved Level 5 in Maths (twice as many as national). 81% Level 5 in SPAG (28% above national). 73% Level 5 in Reading (24% above national).

7 KS2 Attainment & Achievement Progress of pupils (achievement) from KS1 to end of KS2 (Y2 Y6) was outstanding, putting us in the high end of the top 10% of schools nationally for the third year running. So pupils progress and attainment across the school has been of a very high standard and this is due to children being motivated and engaged in their learning and very high quality teaching.

8 Teaching & Learning From all learning walks and lesson observations carried out over the last 12 months, 100% of teaching over time has been graded at at least good and well over 30% outstanding. This is quite exceptional and is due to an incredibly hard working, dedicated and committed staff; who continually want to improve.

9 Ofsted We were the first school in Havering to receive an Inspection under the new much more rigorous OFSTED Framework.

10 Ofsted We were graded as Outstanding overall and all areas: Effectiveness of Leadership and Management. Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment. Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare. Outcomes for Pupils. Early Years Provision.

11 Ofsted We were the first school in East London to be graded outstanding overall and in all areas and is an accolade we are all truly proud of. We have had visits from well over a dozen schools from Havering, other London Boroughs and Essex to disseminate and share outstanding practice.

12 Extra Curricular During the course of the last 12 months we have run over 30 different extra curricular clubs, to which over 250 different pupils have attended at least one club and many attend more than one.

13 Concerts, Festivals, Sport, Creative Weeks As always every pupil from Nursery to Y6 performed in one of our very successful Christmas concerts. We performed at both Borough and Infant Music Festivals. We and were highly successful in numerous Borough sporting events, including winning the boys football league for the first time in over 20 years.

14 Concerts, Festivals, Sport, Creative Weeks As normal we have organised and run a number of highly successful weeks including a Literacy week, an ML week, a British Values and Economic Awareness week. Children were taken out on 24 different educational visits, activity weeks and outdoor pursuits days or weeks.

15 Concerts, Festivals, Sport, Creative Weeks We also had over 30 different visitors coming into the school ranging from numerous theatre groups, Transport for London, dance groups, a Justice of the Peace, Firemen, Police Officers, music groups, and a singer to name but a few.

16 New Curriculum As you are all aware a brand new national curriculum was implemented from September 2014 with significantly heightened expectations. This has been exciting, but also very challenging The new Hacton Pupil Passport System was implemented this time last year.

17 School Improvement Priorities 2015 / 16

18 School Improvement This academic year has seen a completely new system of assessment beyond levels implemented. We are using the Symphony assessment system at Hacton, which is linked directly to the new curriculum and is both a planning and assessment tool assessing children on their on trackness. This has, like just about every other Primary in the country, been one of our areas for development this school year.

19 School Improvement Other areas for improvement have been to raise the profile, enjoyment, achievement and attainment of reading across the school. A lot of work has been done on this since September (all children heard reading with extra planned reading sessions for targeted pupils). Boarding card authors and poets are promoted within each year group and through Authoropoly board and books in school foyer area, children have the opportunity to recommend and take recommendations on different texts by writing reviews for the main corridor Reading Review Board.

20 School Improvement New reading scheme has been implemented and a large amount of money spent on new books that will motivate pupils to read. Every teacher throughout the school from Y1 to Y6 teaches the skills of written comprehension, so that children have a secure understanding of how to answer comprehension questions about a range of text types.

21 School Improvement A number of high quality reading intervention programmes have been implemented across the school, so that all pupils make the required progress in reading. OFSTED were highly complimentary of the school s approach to and its impact on pupils reading. The school s third school improvement priority has been to continue to develop and improve the quality of teaching and learning across the school. As already stated my SLT and I grade teaching and learning over time to be at least good 100% of the time and outstanding 30% of the time.

22 School Improvement OFSTED stated Teachers throughout the school are highly skilled at motivating pupils to learn exceptionally well. Their excellent subject knowledge and the schools curriculum enable pupils to make very good progress during lessons. Due to this, the majority of pupils are working at the expected stage of development in all year groups. Many are working beyond this, particularly in English and Maths. The quality of teaching, learning and assessment was all graded as outstanding. The only subject area in the school graded as less than outstanding and only good was Science.

23 New School Development

24 New School Development The last 12 months have also been an exciting time in regards to the procurement of a contractor, design, planning and commencement of build of a brand new 9m 3 form entry Primary School here at Hacton on our current school field.

25 New School Development This time last year, I had to tell parents that due to market conditions the Education Funding Agency Funding arm of DFE had been unable to procure a contractor to build the 7 schools in the Havering and Waltham Forest batch of schools under the National Priority Schools Building Programme. After many lengthy meetings with EFA, Hacton and Suttons Primary were batched together under a regional Priority Schools Building Programme and Galliford Try won the contract in April of last year.

26 New School Development It was finally decided to build a 3 storey school with a separate hall block. Planning was finally agreed in October 2015, contractors signed in early November and work commenced in December. Currently piling has been completed (the technique that sets deep foundations for the construction of the school, in Hacton s case these are between metres deep).

27 New School Development Foundations and drainage are now completed for teaching and hall blocks. The ground floor slab for the hall has been completed. Next week the metal frame for hall block will be erected.

28 New School Development In next 8 weeks exterior shell of new school should be completed (by end of April). Roof, windows, exterior cladding will then be put in place. Exterior work to be completed by end of school year. August November to be spent on internal works, decoration, electrics, fixtures, fittings and equipment and computers, telephone systems.

29 New School Development Currently it is anticipated school will be completed, ready to move in to by middle of December My intention, if timescales are kept to, is to finish the autumn term at current school and move across to new school to open beginning of spring term Demolition of our present school will then commence and will take approximately 6 months. A new school field will then be laid on current school site and work will be completed by August 2017.
