3 Representative of the Interests of Industry Industry lies at the heart of German business German industry generates a quarter of the German gross domestic product (GDP) If we include industry-related service-providers, this would even be a third of GDP. As the umbrella organisation of German industry and industry-related service-providers BDI is the voice of 38 sectoral associations It represents the interests of more than 100,000 large, medium-sized and small enterprises vis-à-vis policy-makers and the general public BDI-Vorlage.pptx 3

14 Representative of the Interests of Industry Public promotion programs in Germany a structural review Start-up: Support forstart-up projects through various grants, particularly through lowinterest loans with long maturities. Corporate Growth: A medium-sized financial support, especially in East-Germany: low-interest loans, tax relief, as well as non-repayable grants, equity contribution is usually necessary. Consultancy: Get - as a founder or an established company - supporting use of external consultants and training. The promotion is done through grants, usually selfinvolvement is necessary. Fairs and Exhibitions: Support for the participation in fairs and exhibitions abroad (trade fair participation of the federal government). Research, Innovation, Technology: The Technology federal funding is divided into the so-called open to technology promotion, which primarily helps hightech-founders with expertise, contacts, grants and investment capital, and the technology-specific promotion, the specific R & D projects pushes with non-repayable grants BDI-Vorlage.pptx 14

15 Representative of the Interests of Industry Public promotion programs in Germany a structural review Environmental programs, Energy: Support by grants or loans etc. for environmental investments, the export of technologies for renewable energy and for financing of environmental protection measures. Foreign Trade: Support for the development of foreign markets. The tools for this are investment and export credit guarantees and loans to finance export transactions.
