9 Alberta Seniors is responsible for calculating Core Need Income Thresholds (CNITs) for rural communities in Alberta with a population between 1,000 and 9,999 people and at least 30 or more rental units using data from the annual Apartment Vacancy and Rental Cost Survey. Once individual CNITs are calculated for each community, the communities are grouped into four regions: Central, North, South and South Central Regions. The weighted averages of the CNITs for individual communities in the region are then calculated.
