Join the cruise in Passau, the city of three rivers, so named because it is built on the confluence of the Danube, the Inn and the Ilz Rivers. An important trading centre for centuries, Passau s history of wealth is still evident in its beautiful buildings. Cruise overnight to the Unesco World Heritage city of Regensburg, the first capital of avaria, with two millennia of history bequeathing to the city some of the region s finest architectural heritage. Explore the medieval heart of the city before CPD lectures in the afternoon or time at leisure, before a traditional avarian night on board. Cruise back to Passau and disembark for a day trip to Salzburg in Austria, a baroque city of storybook beauty. Take a tour of the city of Mozart, including the house where he was born. After lunch head into the Alps and the stunning region of Salzkammergut, including Mondsee, the film location for The Sound of Music. Return to the ship, docked at the former Roman town of Linz on the Danube. Continue to Melk, where there is the option to take an excursion to Austria s most famous abbey. 3 being the birthplace of Hungary s first king, St Stephen, in 975 AD. Explore the town at your own pace and return to the ship to cruise into udapest, or take an optional excursion to the basilica and continue onto the artists village of Szentendre before driving onto udapest. The grand city of Vienna exceptional, perched above the town on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube. Explore the library and frescoes before continuing to ancient Durnstein, one of the most romantic Danube towns, where you will stop for wine tasting. Spend the afternoon at leisure or attend CPD lectures on board the ship. Continue to Vienna, where you will dock in the evening and explore this magical city by night, with the option of champagne tasting along the way. Vienna is a city famous for many things imperial grandeur, music, Freud, exquisite food and also its vibrant contemporary cultural scene. Spend the next day exploring this magnificent city with CPD lectures taking place in Vienna during the day. In the evening there is an optional Sound of Vienna tour, with visits including the magnificent Kursalon, where the Strauss brothers enjoyed their greatest triumphs. Arrive in udapest in the afternoon and take a tour of this undisputed Queen of the Danube. Straddling the Danube, with the uda Hills to the west and the Great Plain to the east, udapest is a gem of a city. Its stunning setting combines with architectural beauty encompassing baroque, neoclassical, eclectic and art nouveau buildings, with a distinct overall fin-de-siècle feel to it. Explore the sights of this wonderful city, famed also for its food and excellent wine and its vast array of thermal spas and bathhouses. In the evening take to the Danube for a river cruise of udapest gloriously lit up at night. Next morning disembark for a CPD meeting and a partner programme to visit the central market and famous Café Gerbeau for coffee and cake. You will spend your final night in 5-star luxury at the Corinthia Hotel, finishing your European journey in suitably grand style. He has lectured both nationally and internationally and is the author of many publications. Dr Sheila Stork is a Consultant Occupational Physician specialising in stress and a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner.
