3 WELCOME Welcome to our sale. There are eight ranches with us, all from people who use horses for a living and know how to handle them. They are exposed to all aspects of ranch work. I believe when training a horse, you start from the ground up and build brick by brick. There cannot be any short cuts and always finish on a good note. Anything that likes to buck is quickly eliminated from the program. It s a lot of work to put a sale on. We would like to extend a big thank you to family and friends for their help. A big thank you goes out to Clay and Kim Holt for the use of their facilities. You are welcome to visit the ranch anytime to take a look or try a horse out. Thank you to all Gord & Lana TERMS AND CONDITIONS 1. The auctioneer will sell the animal to the highest bidder, and will settle disputes which arise as to bidders and buyers. 2. Terms of the sale are cash or cheque. Payment is to be made the day of the sale before the horses are released. 3. Transfer fees will by paid by the buyers. 4. GST will be charged. 5. Buyers assume responsibility and expense for the horse after the fall of the auctioneer s gavel. Feed and water will be available. 6. Persons attending the sale do so at their own risk. The management and sale personnel assume no liability legal or otherwise, for accidents or injuries that may occur to people, horses, or vehicles.

4 The experience these horses get is what sets them up for your chosen sport. Miled out, horses with good minds and know what a cow is. Taking horses to branding is not only a good day but it shows them the pull of the rope, walking past the branding pot, people darting in front and behind them, smoke in the face and learning to stand and hold a calf down. It works well to desensitize them. At Bar Heart Ranch we get them locking onto a cow before heading into the roping box. If brought along slowly, with the excitement of the rope box they will handle pressure well all their lives. When coming out on their first few steers the second they do something right, its loosen the saddle and put them in the barn. We build them like this and they soon are hunting the right thing to do. 3,6, or 12 steers whatever they need for the day. Once the roping starts each horse gets a 4 mile ride before going into the arena this continues for 4 days, occasionally on day 5 we will score 10 steer each. They are then turned out for 2-3 days to think, then start over again. Slow cattle are ideal to start with. Once faster cattle show up, their minds can take the pressure. The horses are worked on the zip line, this gets their feet in position to turning a cow and they get to liking it. They also spend time cutting cattle one on one. Every horse gets the same procedure. Any objection they have to anything, eventually they just give up. Because of this program we put them through what ever it may be, team penning, ranch use, good started rope horse, or just pleasure riding they are ready for it. The object of all this, is when you take your new purchase home and step on, you are happy and satisfied. Each horse has their own personality but we put them all through the same procedures. We encourage people to come before sale day and try out the horses. BAR HEART RANCH , TED BENNETT , HUGH FLEMING CASEY LAWES JIM KELTS TYLER THOMSOM LEE MACMILLAN DARYL HILL KYLE FREADRICH The first day at branding I always make sure the horse is warmed up so when they walk in their minds are clear and ready to learn. They walk thru the pattern of roping and dragging without the calf. On the first calf if everything goes well, once the calf has been from the ground crew, I step off and release the cinches and stand for a minute. Theres a lot of pressure on them and this procedure shows them a way to get away from it. There are a lot of nerve endings where you do up your cinch, this release feels good. We then cinch up, rope 4-6 calves, repeat the procedure, and then tie the horse to the fence. Not only does this get the horse trusting you, he will hunt that same spot knowing he can get away from pressure if he behaves himself. It looks like you are not doing much, but next branding he will be a different feeling horse. This is repeated at the second branding roping head, now the horse is to go to work. I like to keep a first timer moving thru the pen, rope a calf head for the fire. If you have to stop and start too much or push calves around, the horse can become antsy and frustrated, wrecks can ensue. Happy brandings. We spent a month on him last fall, then it was off to brandings this spring. Between cutting steers working the zip line and ranch roping Pepper will be a well rounded guy by sale time. Pepper is a well put up gelding. #3 SR CAFÉ JOAQUINA # BROWN GELDING BAR HEART RANCH TEXAS KICKER LONG TALL CHEXAN ROSE TEX FRECKLES NOVA FRECKLES JOAQUINA DEAREST MOLLY POO Its good to have Tex in our sale, he s very broke and is a nice heading horse. Step on and ride off anytime, Tex has pulled many calves at brandings. We went to the mountains to rope some reluctant cow calf pairs last winter, Tex was the one I took as he is sure footed, quick to cattle and solid. A good ranch horse that stands 15 2hh.

He stands /2hh and is made right. Pepto was started last fall and will be roping the heel-o-matic sale day. He easy to catch and walks off like an old broke horse. Rachel is currently roping heel-o-matic and working the zip line. Beano has a unique white marking on his hip, a nice gelding. #6 MILKSHAKE 2011 BUCKSKIN GELDING BAR HEART RANCH Milkshake does not know that he is only 14 1hh, we call him the little big horse. He is a gentle, wants to be caught, 5-year-old, that when asked to lope 2 miles he will, ask for a walk head drops ears are forward and he hustles along. Everyone here on the ranch has rode Milkshake, they think he s a unique little guy. Because Milkshake has a big motor we don t recommend him for beginners.

He likes the branding part and heeling steers, Ransom makes a good corner and really wants to get there. We plan on getting him to some jackpots before sale. Beautiful gelding. #8 DOC OWN COMMANDER # BLUE ROAN GELDING BAR HEART RANCH DOCS LAST COMMAND BSR LUCKY COMMAND LUCKY YUCCA LADY DOUBLE OTOE DOC DOCS OWN BABE FLAXS BABE LEO Sarge is a steady, stout 9-year-old, standing 15hh, he is strong on the horn and pulls calves with ease. He always walks off with his ears forward and has a reliable way about him. Watch Sarge rope steers sale day. #9 LLW DRIFT IN TIME # PALOMINO GELDING BAR HEART RANCH MR KATO DRIFTER CRIMSON DRIFTER CRIMSON GYPSY TINK FAST LEO LLW IM AN ANGEL SUPER STAR ANGEL My 5-year-old granddaughter affectionately called this gelding Lightbulb. The name suits him; he is a horse the whole family can enjoy. A 5-year-old, Lightbulb is /2hh, he has a flawless lope and likes doing what is asked of him. Every new situation we put him in he takes it in stride. A horse I enjoy working with.

He seems to take everything in stride, brandings were a snap to him. Tink had miles last fall, stepped on him this spring without a hitch. We are riding him daily, roping steers, ranch work, and anyone can ride Tink. #11 REYMONIZE # BAY GELDING BAR HEART RANCH TR DUAL REY RIGHT ON REY JA BAR STORMY LADY SONITAS LUCK ALONE STAR LENA LENA LINDA At 15 2hh Dually is nice combination of size and athletic ability. He is fun, is responsive and naturally hunts cattle. At Dually s first branding he was suspicious but quickly changed his mind. Brandings are great for taking the goof out of them. Presently he is working the zip line, chasing the heel-o-matic and getting daily use. Buttermilk is a high end gelding prospect with good mind and color. Started last fall Buttermilk will be roping the heel-omatic sale day. You have to hunt to find a gelding like this.

He has been used for all aspects of ranch duties, lots of brandings, hours in the saddle checking and doctoring cattle. Good in the branding pen and we will be heading steers sale day. Rex is a Blue Jay Babe son that looks good and will get the job done. #14 MR KILOMAX # BAY ROAN GELDING BAR HEART RANCH WFR LITTLE JOE LEO KILOMAX KILOMAX BONANZA FEATURE BUCK BONNY SWEET BONANZA SWEET NITE LITE Big good looking 15 3hh gelding that has seen all types of ranch work. Been to many brandings spent long days pasture calving cows, Little Joe has also doctored cattle in the open. He is a comfortable ride and has the feel of a horse that has done a lot of work. Little Joe is classy looking guy with a ground covering walk. #15 DQH TIVIO TARDY TWO # SORREL GELDING BAR HEART RANCH CD RIO LSR FORREST AMYABLE TIVIO TIGER DOC DQH GIVE ME NO SASS SILVER SAN JACK Rio is 14 31/2hh who is enjoyable horse to ride and be around. He comes to you to be caught. Rio is extra broke for his age and has won money at local jackpots as a heel horse. He is a natural in the branding pen, with a sweetheart disposition, and easy to look at. Lots of pluses for this 4-year-old.

We are excited about this gelding, an attractive package with a sweet disposition. A horse that I would like to put in the back forty for the next two years, everything about him is high end. Will be roping the heel-o-matic. #17 BAR K GOOD SCOTCH # BAY GELDING BAR HEART RANCH SCOTCH BAR TIME SCOTCHS BUDDY LADY SECOND STEP TOADS CHAMP BLAIN BAR K GRAND CHICK WYLER CHICK A 9-year-old with lots of body and comfortable to ride all day. Toad was good in the branding pen and is a nice heel horse. Presently he is getting a good dose of ranch work, a nice gelding to be around. Toad stands 15hh. #18 RHR OTOE FLASH # APHA 2012 SORREL GELDING BAR HEART RANCH TWO EYED JJ MBAR OTOE SWIFT MISS OTOE SAY CHIPS JR IMA FLASHY KITTY BAYOU J BAR Chip is a 15 2hh 4-year-old I would like to keep for myself. He is fancy to look at and his lope is like riding on a cloud. He keeps an eye out for gopher holes and is good at keeping his feet out of them. Chip has been to four brandings and is an excellent ranch or team roping prospect. Responsive and smooth, my favorite.

He stands 15 2hh with lots of look. Lemondrop pulled well at his brandings, and will be heading steers sale day. All through his training he has stayed level headed and is good to work with everyday. #20 FRESCA 2012 RED ROAN GELDING BAR HEART RANCH Fresca is a likeable 15 hh 4-year-old. His first trip to branding fire was quick, but settled down and went to work. Fresca is clean minded and good to ride anytime. Where he shines is working cattle, watch him run a steer down the wall sale day. #21 HENRY SORREL GELDING BAR HEART RANCH BLUEBOY QUINCY DOCS CHOCTAW SABRE DOC CHOCTAW DOCS EDITOR DOCS FROSTY LEGACY FROSTED TEE JAY Henry, is a 10-year-old, 15 31/2hh Blue Boy Quincy bred gelding he is a highlight type of horse and sells as a grade. He looks good from any angle and has a gentle way about him. He stays calm in the branding pen and is presently roping steers. I spent 6 days at community pasture with Henry, and he stays the same every day. Henry installs confidence in inexperienced riders. A gelding who

Bingo is a soft moving horse with a mellow mind. His branding went well and is presently getting a good dose of ranch work. He sold in our sale 8 years ago to Spady Ranch, where he was ranched on. Having not been used the last 2 years, they thought he was too good to just sit. We were roping off Mo as a four-year-old and he has gone back to it like he never left. He has a ground covering walk. #24 REGGIE 2008 ROAN GELDING BAR HEART RANCH Reggie won t win any beauty contest, however, if you want honesty and dependability, he s your man. Once on Reggie s back you find out what he is all about and you forgive him for not being show horse material. He is sure footed and comfortable to ride. Catch him, saddle him up, and ride off. He will look after you. Reggie stands 15 3hh.

I have never rode a horse with his dimensions, a tremendous hip, huge shoulder and forearm tapering up to a well pronounced whither. People walk by him and stop and stare. That being said Bull has excellent mind and for a big horse is soft to ride. Clay raised Bull here on the ranch, started as a 3-year-old then ridden off and on as a 4-year-old. When pulling calves, you don t know your hooked onto anything. Bull will be heading steers sale day. Seen all aspects of the ranch. Black as night, very eye catching. Don t miss this fancy using gelding. Gord practicing his roping skills Maui style.

He has been used at brandings for the past 4 years and team roping jackpots the last 3. Has won money on both ends but has mainly been headed on. This horse is suitable for any level of rider is very quiet and easy to catch, and can be turned out for long periods of time without any change in his attitude. He has been around our place for the past two years, where he has been to branding pen, doctored cattle on grass, sorted pairs and take a trip to the mountains. With his quiet demeanour and ability to step out and walk Ghost should be a welcome addition to any operation. He is no doubt a looker, standing 15 2hh with all the right confirmation and COLOR. He is a really easy moving horse that has seen all aspects of ranch work. I have also roped bulls and picked up a few broncs on him. He does not buck or have a dirty bone in his body but we would not recommend him for beginners as he is a lot of horse. He will go all day and do whatever job you need done on the ranch. If you have a lot of work to be done this may be your horse. They don t come any fancier than this 8-year-old gelding. But don t let his size fool you, at 14 2hh, Trigger is a little horse with a huge motor that will do anything a big horse can don on the ranch. He has roped the heel-o-matic and I have roped a limited amount of live cattle on him. He tracks up real nice and has a big stop. Very cowy and is great to sort on in the pens and pasture. Trigger is a real gentle horse, but he is a horse that has more go than most. If you are looking for your next ranch horse and don t want to be getting on and off a giant, Trigger might be your horse.
