1 ASID STRATEGIC PLAN FY THE ASID WHY STATEMENT: ASID ADVANCES THE PROFESSION AND COMMUNICATES THE IMPACT OF INTERIOR DESIGN TO ENHANCE THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE. CORE VALUES AND STRATEGIC GUIDEPOSTS: ASID leads collaboration with those working to promote the value of interior design. ASID prepares its members to excel in a dynamic and evolving profession competing in a global marketplace. ASID leads the profession through the generation, collection and dissemination of applied knowledge. 1
2 GOAL 1: BE THE CORE OF THE DESIGN NETWORK Demonstrate the value of the ASID network to all stakeholders that results in recognition as the industry leader. Objective 1. Lead an inclusive strategy of collaboration across multiple disciplines, organizations and institutions. Strategy 1. By Q3 FY13, develop and present a defined agenda around the topics of globalization, social responsibility/design impact upon the human experience, and new business models: Objective 2. Create meaningful opportunities (physical and virtual) that connect stakeholders. Strategy 1. By Q4 2013, hold events (may be new or incorporated into existing) relating to ideas generated through multi-stakeholder, roundtable discussions on each collaborative topic. (G1, O1, S1, T3). Objective 3. Develop a collaborative (human and technological) network that collects and shares information. Strategy 1. By Q1, FY 13, Define and develop provocative, substantive, easily consumable content that draws stakeholders to the ASID website and implement a process to deliver same on an ongoing basis. Strategy 2. By Q4FY 2013, hold segment specific events that provide additional opportunities for connection beyond collaboration topics.. Strategy 2. By Q1, FY 13, implement measures to increase the prominence, member awareness and distribution of ASID content on the web. 2
3 GOAL 2: EXPAND KNOWLEDGE Create, collect and distribute information whose value establishes ASID as the foremost resource for interior design knowledge. Objective 1. Broaden the technological base and expertise of the organization and its designer members. Strategy 1. Provide members with ongoing guidance/instruction about technology tools that increase their effectiveness/productivity. Strategy 2. Expand staff capacity to utilize technology to deliver member value through investment in training and technology infrastructure. Objective 2. Establish and commit to a longterm research agenda. Strategy 1. By Q1 FY13, identify current gaps and research priorities. Strategy 2. By Q2 FY13, develop partnerships to support and further ASID s research agenda.. Objective 3. Disseminate and share applied research and design solutions through a comprehensive educational agenda. Strategy 1. By Q1 FY13, develop a dissemination strategy (plan + channels) that addresses and responds to topics of current interest or urgency in the industry. Strategy 2. By Q3 FY13, develop a marketing and dissemination plan for each of the ASID research projects and execute upon completion. 3
4 GOAL 3: DEVELOP THE PRACTICE Define and Deliver resources that help members expand their practice creating value that results in membership growth and retention. Objective 1: Execute a marketing, communications and advocacy plan that promotes the value of interior design and expands opportunities to practice. Objective 2. Deliver a business development curriculum that creates member and brand value. Objective 3: Maximize the perceived value of ASID services to all members and leverage the effectiveness of member-to-member recruitment. Strategy 1. Create greater knowledge and understanding within consumer markets to increase the awareness of the value of interior design. Strategy 1. Deliver business practice education/training programs based on member needs. Strategy 1. Measure and analyze existing member satisfaction. Strategy 2. Advance a broad-based program based on federal regulatory policy, codes development and state legislative proposals that will impact the practice of interior design, provide professional recognition for designers and expand practice opportunities. Strategy 2. Create a culture where members welcome the opportunity and are equipped to talk about their positive experience with ASID. 4
5 GOAL 4: CREATE A PERFORMANCE-ORIENTED ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE Design and implement a leadership culture that increases organizational performance and results in the optimization of human resources. Objective 1. Develop and assess the Objective 2. Secure long-term organizational effectiveness of the organization and viability. individuals. Create a transparent management system. Strategy 1. By Q1 FY2014, implement a leadership development program which results in a culture of early identification and ongoing, level-specific training to expand the depth and capacity of ASID s leadership pool. Strategy 1. Conduct strategic recruitment efforts that result in total membership growth averaging 4% annually by Strategy 2. By 2014, implement an organizational structure and management system that fosters a culture of high performance and strategic achievement. Strategy 2. Continue to develop and deliver value that enhances the ASID member experience and communicate that value provided more effectively leading to increased member retention. Strategy 3. Assess and improve the overall effectiveness of ASID chapters, reassessing performance and subsequent training and development annually. Strategy 3. By Q2, FY13, create a model to achieve nondues revenue goals. Strategy 4. By 2015, ASID has cost-containment strategies in place which keep us on solid financial footing. 5
