INSTRUCTIONS AND PASSCODE WILL BE SENT TO YOU AT A LATER DATE. ALL CORRESPONDENCE, ENTRIES, ETC. BEING ENTERED IN THE LIVESTOCK SHOW MUST BE SIGNED BY AG. SCIENCE TEACHER, COUNTY AGENT OR 4-H CLUB MANAGER. Signatures from 4-H leaders will NOT be accepted unless the leader is the club manager. 4-H & FFA FARM SHOP EXHIBITS NEW Release of projects not going through the sale: 7:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 20 and 7:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21 ALL MARKET HOGS, GOATS, LAMBS AND STEERS IN ADDITION TO JR. BREEDING GILTS AND LAMBS, COMMERCIAL DOES AND REGISTERED BREEDING HEIFERS MUST BE STATE VALIDATED. EXHIBITORS MAY ENTER ONLY ONE ANIMAL IN EACH MARKET DIVISION. MARKET GOATS Exhibitor must show their own goat for Showmanship and Exhibitor number is required.
2 MARKET HOGS New Hogs suspected to be less than 220 pounds will be weighed by committee, hogs less than 220 pounds must be taken home at that time. Judging Thursday, March 19 8:00 a.m. Showmanship Friday, March 20 8:00 a.m. MARKET LAMBS Wording on rule #12 -.Any lamb weighing more than five (5) pounds above or below his initial show weight will become ineligible for any award of placing. New Class IV. Haired Sheep and Medium Wool moved to Class V. MARKET POULTRY Rule Changes: #4 No requests for refund of money received for payment of chicks or cancellations of orders will be considered. Checks will be deposited upon receipt. #5 Chicks may be either straight run or sexed (if sexed birds become available). All exhibitors will be provided the same number of birds from the same hatchery order and will be distributed to exhibitors randomly. Birds of either sex may be shown. MARKET STEERS All steers must have 2015 validation tags in ear at time of delivery to the Showgrounds. If not, the Steer will not be allowed on the Grounds. CLASSES ARE AS FOLLOWS: ABC STEERS (AMERICAN BREEDS AND CROSSES) This Class will encompass the American Breeds and their Crosses such as Brahman, Brahmousin, Red Brangus, Black Brangus, Charbray, and Beefmaster. AOB STEERS (ALL OTHER BREEDS) This Class will encompass those steers that have European and British bloodlines and all crosses between them with no visible evidence of Brahman blood allowed. Breed of sire and dam must be shown on the entry application. BRAHMAN PUREBRED STEERS Steers must be purebred Brahman. Registration papers of Sire and Dam must accompany the Entry Certification and Summary sheets. Animals must be purchased from a breeder from Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr or Willacy County. CHAROLAIS AND CHAROLAIS CROSSBREED STEERS Steers must show a predominance of Charolais characteristics indicating the animal is 50% or more Charolais.
3 CHIANINA STEERS (A class will be created provided there are 10 animals entered in competition) Must exhibit Chianina influence in head and skeleton; Any shade of black, red, gray or yellow; Brindles, baldies, blaze face and motleys; Head tends to be narrow through the center part of the skull and exhibits a longer muzzle; Muscle conformation tends to be smooth, not coarse or excessively round. Skeleton tends to be lighter and smoother jointed. Discriminatory Breed Characteristics: Coarse joints or skeleton; Excessive spotting above the underline. Absolute Disqualifications: Appears to be a purebred of any other breed. MAINE-ANJOU STEERS Steers must be ½ blood or more Maine-Anjou and must exhibit predominant characteristics of the breed. SANTA GERTRUDIS & SANTA GERTRUDIS CROSSBRED STEERS Steers must show a predominance of Santa Gertrudis characteristics indicating the animal is 50% or more Santa Gertrudis. SIMBRAH STEERS Steers must have a minimum of ¼ and/or a maximum of ¾ Simmental and Brahman characteristics and features with no other breed represented. No identification or registration numbers will be required. If there are 20 or more steers of a breed not presently included in the Show, a separate class will be established for the breed. 6 REMINDER: All entries, except Shop Exhibits, Photography & Western Art, will be brought in by way of Vermont & Armory Streets. NONE will be permitted through the Texas Gate. Sifting of market animals will be on Tuesday afternoon, March 17, except for Market Hogs, Market Poultry and Market Rabbits. Market Rabbits will be sifted on Monday, March 11. Market Poultry will be delivered and sifted Wednesday morning, March 13. Market Hog validation check and classification will be done in the Hog Office starting Tuesday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. Please check the Schedule in front of the Premium List as to when projects will arrive and be judged during the Show. Animal Identify DNA Testing As a condition for participation in the Show, every exhibitor must agree to submit DNA validation/ registration samples of any and all animals entered by exhibitors for purposes of identifications. The Show requires that the animal exhibited at the Show be the same as the animal enrolled at the validation/registration event. The Show specifically reserves the right to obtain and maintain hair and/or blood DNA samples and have analysis made on any animal entered for the competition. The conclusion reached by the testing company/laboratories shall be final, without recourse against the Show or its service providers. If the animal s identity (Show sample) is found to differ from its validation/registration sample, then the exhibitor will forfeit any awards, prize money and/or sale proceeds and may forfeit all rights and privileges to exhibit in the future at the Show.
