1 Downloading OverDrive Audio Books with Overdrive These and other instructions can be found by clicking the My Help link on the ebooks page of the RPL website

2 1 Install free OverDrive software Go to Click in the upper right corner of the screen. Click the Applications link, then select OverDrive. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click. When a pop-up window opens, click Save File. To continue, select I Agree. Then, click the Next button. The Select Installation Folder screen is displayed. It is recommended that you install to the displayed folder. Select whether you want the program to be accessible to Everyone or Just me. Click the Next button. The Confirm Installation screen is displayed. Click the Next button. When the installation is complete, the Installation Complete screen is displayed. Click the Close button to exit the wizard. Security Upgrade A Downloads box is displayed. Double-click A Security Warning dialog box may open. Click Run button to begin the installation. The Over- Drive Media Console Setup Wizard is displayed. The first time you attempt to download protected titles, OverDrive Media Console checks to see if a security upgrade is needed. If prompted, follow the instructions provided to complete the security upgrade. Open OverDrive Media Console. Go to Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade. A dialog box is displayed, notifying you that Windows Media Player requires a security upgrade. Click OK. Click the Next button. The Software License Agreement screen is displayed. To complete the upgrade, click Play. 2 3

3 2 Check out a downloadable audio book Go to the library s digital site at digital.rochesterpubliclibrary.org Search for a title using the search box at the top of the screen. 3 Download Click Download. If prompted, choose to Open with OverDrive Media Console. Click OK. Overdrive Media Console opens. The Get Media dialog box is displayed. Click OK. You can limit to audio books using the Advanced Search option (below search box), or by using the filters on the left side of the results screen. Note: Available downloadable audio books will have a dark grey headphone icon in the upper right corner of the book cover. If it is checked out by another patron and unavailable the icon will be light grey, and you will have the option to ereserve the title by clicking the Place a Hold link. You will be ed when the item is available to check out. The Download dialog box is displayed. Select the desired part(s) to download. Click OK. Available Unavailable Hover over the cover image for the title you would like to check out; click. If you are not currently logged into your RPL eaccount, you will be prompted to enter your library card number (no spaces) and PIN. Click Sign In. The download begins. Depending on internet speed, this process may take ten minutes or more. 4 5

4 4(a) Listen to audio books on your computer Open OverDrive Media Console Select View All Media 4(b) Transfer downloaded title to a (non-apple) device Open OverDrive Media Console. Connect your device to your computer via USB cable. Select a title. Click the Transfer button. Follow the steps in the wizard to complete the transfer. Double-click on the book cover to open OverDrive Media Explorer. OverDrive Media Explorer will open, and the book will begin to play automatically. 4(c) Transfer downloaded title to an Apple device If you have a Windows computer: Install OverDrive Media Console for Windows. Install Windows Media Player 9 series (or newer). Install itunes v9.1 (or newer). Enable the itunes setting Manually manage music 6 7

5 for the device. Connect the device to your computer via USB cable. If it does not launch automatically, open itunes. Locate the device in the left vertical navigation panel (under heading DEVICES ). Click the device. The Summary screen is displayed. Place a checkmark next to the option Manually manage music. Click the Apply button. The changes are saved. From a Windows computer, MP3 audiobooks and most WMA audiobooks may be transferred to an Apple device. To transfer: Connect the device to your computer via USB cable. If itunes does not open automatically, open it now. Open OverDrive Media Console and select a title. Click the Transfer button. The Transfer Wizard opens. Follow the prompts to complete the transfer. You ll find transferred WMA audiobooks under Playlists on your device and MP3 audiobooks under Music > Albums.
