Becoming an Edexcel Assessment Associate (AA) offers an excellent opportunity for professionals to gain valuable knowledge of specifications and a greater insight into the assessment of candidates. In addition to this, AAs are able to translate their experiences into a teaching environment, enabling them to become more confident teachers and enhancing their expertise within the classroom. Last year Edexcel recruited over 16,000 professionals, the vast majority of them teachers and lecturers, to work as AAs. AAs are recruited through: direct contact with teachers and lecturers in schools and colleges advertising in the national press advertising on Edexcel s website advertising on teaching-specific websites the delivery of PGCE events INSET and Professional Development and Training meetings advertising on the AA recruitment microsite recommendations from existing AAs. Edexcel employs a strict training and monitoring process to evaluate AA performance for each examination/verification session. 3 Assessment Associate roles 3.1 Academic Qualifications These consist of GCSE, GCSE in vocational subjects, IGCSE, GCE, GCE in Applied Subjects, O level, A level and Diploma/Functional Skills, Project, Principal Learning. For these qualifications, we recruit senior examiners, examiners, moderators and general markers.

5 Assessment Associate Recruitment Vocational Qualifications BTEC offers a wide range of vocational qualifications including Entry and Introductory, BTEC First, BTEC Nationals and Higher National Diplomas. For BTEC, we recruit external verifiers and centre risk assessors. We also offer Edexcel NVQs and recruit external verifiers for these qualifications. 3.3 Professional Development & Training Edexcel provides a range of training, support and guidance services for all Edexcel customers, whether currently delivering or considering Edexcel qualifications. The National Programme of training events runs throughout the year for both General and BTEC qualifications. Edexcel also offers a wide and flexible range of customised services designed to meet the specific requirements of individual centres. Edexcel recruit the specialists (PD&T trainers) who deliver the training and support. PD&T trainers provide: customised training for schools, colleges, higher education and training providers courses supporting assessment and, where appropriate, grading for all Edexcel qualifications update briefings regarding national developments and initiatives in the UK. 4 How to apply 4.1 Academic Qualifications To apply to be an Assessment Associate for an academic qualification you will need to complete our standard online application form. The application process can take approximately six weeks from the date of submission and includes the time it takes to receive necessary references. Please apply online at Forms are initially checked to ensure that your qualifications and experience are suitable for the subject and level applied for. If successful at this stage you will be appointed, subject to receipt of satisfactory references. Once satisfactory references are received, your application will be confirmed. You will be required to complete and pass your training before being eligible to undertake any marking. 4.2 Vocational Qualifications To apply to be an AA for a vocational qualification you will need to complete the relevant online application form. The application process will take approximately six weeks once your form has been received. Please apply online at Forms are initially checked to ensure that your qualifications and experience match the criteria for the sector(s) applied for. Your selection exercise will be reviewed by the relevant vocational specialist. If successful, and we have vacancies in your sector/geographical area, you will be contacted by and invited to attend the next available training. Your appointment will be subject to receipt of satisfactory references.

6 552 Assessment Associate Recruitment 4.3 Professional Development & Training To apply to be a PD&T trainer, you will need to complete our standard on-line application form. The application process will take approximately six weeks once your form has been received. Please apply online at Forms are initially checked to ensure that your qualifications and experience are suitable for the role applied for. If successful at this stage you will be appointed, subject to receipt of satisfactory references. Once satisfactory references are received you will be invited to the next available train the trainer event, which you must successfully complete to be able to deliver events for Edexcel.
