1 PowerPoint Basics of Creating a PowerPoint Presentation MICROSOFT POWERPOINT PowerPoint is software that lets you create visual presentations. PowerPoint presentations are a series of slides that can contain text, pictures, video and sound. PowerPoint can make presentations more dynamic and visually appealing. Ribbon - At the top of your slides helps you to change, fonts, colors, adds pictures and contains many other formatting tools. Home Tab- This is where you can insert new slides, group objects together, and format text on your slide. Title Slide This is the first slide: To write the title of the presentation click where it says click to add title (Ex: How to Make Lemonade ) Click Click to add Subtitle to include a subtitle (Ex: Your Name, & Others) 3 Add Notes This is where you would enter notes for yourself or others to help in preparing for the presentation. 3 POWERPOINT TIPS! Do not fill your slides with lots of text! Keep sentences short or just use keywords. Good example: boys, girl Bad example: I have two boys and one girl. Do not make too many slides! Keep presentation between 3-0 slides. Do add color to your presentation. Do insert pictures along with text to convey your point.

2 Using the Ribbon to Insert a New Slide To insert a new slide, click where it says New Slide, Once selected, a slide layout menu will appear Choose the option Title and Content, click once on this option. This next slide (title and content) will be the slide where you can describe the first step in your presentation. The title for my slide two on How to Make Lemonade could be titled Step or Buying Ingredients. Type this title in the long narrow box at the top. On Slide Order: In this left side bar, you can see the order of your presentation. Insert Options: The 6 little images in the middle of your large text box are options for inserting a table, a chart, graphics, and pictures from a file, clipart or a video. To just add text you can simply move your cursor to where it says Click to add text and begin typing. Note: The slide is automatically set up with bullets. Every time you hit ENTER on the keyboard a new line with a bullet will appear. If you don t want your slides to have bullets go to the Paragraph section of the Home Tab and unclick the bullet button on the Ribbon*. *this should get rid of the yellow of that button.

3 INSERTING A PICTURE To add your next slide, click on NEW SLIDE (located on the Home tab) and from the drop down menu choose the layout that is titled Two Content. This will give you the opportunity to add text in one box and in the other a picture. To add a picture to PowerPoint from the Internet:. Go to Google and type in what you are looking for a picture of, click Search, click on Images in the top left corner. Click on the picture you want to use, click on See Full Size Image next to the picture. The image will open up to its original size. Right click on the picture and choose Copy, go back to PowerPoint and right click in the slide and choose Paste. RESIZE IMAGE To resize your picture left click on the corner dots and hold the left mouse button while moving your mouse towards or away from your picture to change size. To simply move your picture, click in the middle of the picture hold down the left click and move to desired location. HOW TO DELETE A SLIDE To delete a slide simply:. Click on the slide thumbnail on the left hand column. Right click on top of slide you want to delete 3. Scroll to and left click once on delete slide. 4. You ve successfully deleted a slide! HOW TO CHANGE ORDER OF SLIDES To change the order of the slides simply:. Similar to dragging an item, left click and hold down the left click of the slide you want to move.. Move the slide by dragging the mouse and placing the slide to where you want to move it. 3. Once you found where you want the slide to be, simply let go of the mouse.

4 SLIDE DESIGN There are numerous slide designs to choose from. This allows for your presentation to become visually appealing. Go to the Design tab in order to change the design. When you find one you like, click once on it and it will apply to all slides. Continue adding slides and choosing the slide layout you want. Play around with a variety of different layouts. Use the arrows to scroll through all the options. REVIEW SLIDE SHOW Once you have added all your content, review your slides. Remember to check for spelling and grammar mistakes with the ABC Spelling and Grammar button on the toolbar under the Review tab. When you are ready to watch your slideshow, click on the Slideshow tab and choose the From Beginning Note: When your show starts use the left and right arrow buttons on the keyboard to navigate to the next slides! SAVING YOUR WORK. Click on File and select Save As. Type in file name Note: In the Save as type drop-down menu, consider selecting PowerPoint Presentation if you are sharing your PowerPoint with other computers.

5 PRINTING. Click on File and select Print. If you only want to print certain pages, you can type a range of pages. Otherwise, select Print All Pages. 3. Select the number of copies. 4. Click Page Layout to determine how you want the slides to appear on the page. Some options include full slide per page, multiple slides per page, or including your notes. 5. Print! VIDEO: TRANSITIONS Transitions add motion effects between slides. Go to the Transitions tab in the ribbon to practice adding transitions to slides. Add a sound with the new slide Change how long the transition takes Apply to your whole slideshow Do you want it to go automatically or on your click? VIDEO: ANIMATIONS Click on the Animation tab and click the text or picture you want to animate. Choose any of the blue, black and white boxes found in the middle of the tab, you can apply the same animation to all slides with the button apply to all found to the right of the boxes. Make sure the animations and transitions you add aren t too fast or too slow. Animation should enhance your presentation not distract or annoy. Use carefully! HYPERLINKS Creating a hyperlink is a great way to show an example of a website, picture or a YouTube video without having to search for the information online while giving your presentation.. Highlight the text in your slide you want to link, click on the Insert tab and choose hyperlink.. When the hyperlink box appears, add the address of the website you want in the box that says address. 3. Click ok and your word or sentence will now by linked to a website.
