2 Perry Beeches The Academy Welcome to the PB enrichment programme. This booklet contains information on the enrichment and free elective opportunities available for the academic year for all year groups. Every week alongside academic sessions aimed at boosting your skills in certain subject areas you will also find sessions aimed at extending the curriculum outside of the traditional classroom setting. What is the difference between an enrichment and free elective? Whereas an enrichment session will usually be focussed on the skills you may need in the assessed parts of your courses e.g. controlled assessment in Art, Exam skills in Maths, the free electives are non assessed sessions that aim to further your interest in a specific area e.g. culture club in Hums or Coding club in ICT. Why do we advise attending enrichment? Although our curriculum is robust and deep enough to allow all students to succeed we see real increases in the chances of success in external assessments when students have extended their learning outside of the traditional classroom setting. Who Anyone! Whether you are in Year 7 or Year 11, there is a wide variety of enrichments available to everyone. There is a structured enrichment timetable on the page opposite and a list of enrichment/free elective sessions on the pages that follow. Please see your subject teacher if there is something you would like to do but it is not listed on these pages. Do I need to sign up in advance? No! For enrichments that are targeted towards specific students these students will be notified at least 24 hours in advance. For the free electives it may be worth asking the class teacher if there is anything you need to bring or prepare in advance of the session. When sessions need to be cancelled because of bad weather etc. You will be notified at the earliest convenience so you can plan your journey home. We look forward to seeing you in attendance The PB
