1 DATE: July 7, 2010 TO: FROM: State HR All Exclusive Representatives Joe Smiley, Strategic Staffing Supervisor Darlene Hueser, Chief ification Analyst RE: Determinations July 2010 Attached please find an updated Summary of Determinations. This will replace the October 2008 list. The list applies only to decisions about relatedness for calculating class seniority in contracts/plans which allow credit for time in related classes. es are those classes which are similar in the nature and character of the work performed and which require similar qualifications. Please note that there have been only 6 new related class determinations since the 2008 list was published. New related class determinations are identified with an asterisk (*) after the job class title. The class determinations have been divided into two lists: es determined as RELATED, and es determined to be NOT RELATED. Please be aware of the following as it relates to related class determinations: class determinations do not apply when the movement to the new class is a promotion. A related class must be equal to (transferable) or higher than the employee s new class (i.e. movement to the new class must be a transfer or demotion). Seniority upon transfer or demotion in MAPE, Article 15, Section 1 (B).The MAPE contract requires that the salary range of the previous class be the same or higher salary range as the new class in order to make a determination of a related equal or higher class. For example, 13L to 12L could be related but not the reverse even though the move is a transfer. Seniority upon reallocation in AFSCME, Article 4, Section 1 (B) (2). Employees who are reallocated to a lower or equal class after January 1, 1980, shall include service in the class from which they reallocated, regardless of whether or not the higher or equal class is a related class as defined Article 4, Section 1 (E) of the AFSCME Bargaining Agreement. If you have any questions concerning the attachment, please call Darlene Hueser at (651) This new List of July 2010 will replace the October 2008 list on MMB s Web site.
