5 110 Acta Physiologica Sinica Feb. 1999, 51 (1), OPIOID RECEPTOR MED IATED MOD ULATION OF INTRA HIPPOCAMPAL ENKEP HAL IN IND UCED CELL ULAR IMMUNE FUNCTION 3 GAO ( Depart ment of Physiology, Capital U niversity of Medical Sciences, Beijing ) WAN G A2J IN G, YAN G YU2ZHEN, HU MOU2XIAN, XIE HON G ( Reserch Center f or Ex perimental Medicine, Tongji Medical U niversity, W uhan ) NA ABSTRACT In the present work, the effect of intrahippocampal microinjection of opioid re2 ceptor antagonist naloxone on t he enhancement of cellular immune responses induced by enkep halin was studied in rat. The results showed t hat (1) t he proliferation activi2 ty of splenic lymp hocytes stimulated by Con A and natural killer ( N K) cell activity were decreased with microinjection of 1 l lipopolysaccharide (L PS, 50 ng/ l) into bilateral hippocampus ; (2) t he decrease of cellular immune responses induced by L PS could be inhibited by a preceding intrahippocampal injection of 1 l met2enkep halin (10 g/ 1 l) ; (3) t he enhancement of cellular immune responses induced by met2 enkephalin could be blocked by an opioid receptor antagonist naloxon (10 g/ l) ; and (4) cellular immune responses were also inhibited when naloxon was injected intrahip2 pocampally alone. The above results suggest t hat t he enhancement of cellular immune responses induced by enkep halin was mediated by opioid receptors in hippocampus. Key words : neuroimmunomodulation ; hippocampus ; enkep halin ; opioid receptor 3 Project Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No )
