2 Saturday, 25 th June 2011 Transfer Porto / Lisboa After breakfast, departure from Hotel in Porto to Lisbon in private air-conditioning coach. Check in at the chosen hotel. Departure from the hotel for a half day tour of Lisbon passing by: Avenida da Liberdade - This is the most majestic of Lisbon s many avenues. The pavements are attractively decorated with black and white motifs. century buildings on either side include theatres, cinemas, hotels and restaurants. Restauradores - The square owes it s name to the men who in 1640 led the revolt against the Spanish and proclaimed the independence of Portugal. Rossio - This square dates from the 13 century and was the setting of many autodafés. It has two beautiful baroque fountains in the middle. Belem Tower - the symbol of Lisbon - Built in the middle of the Tagus, is an elegant Manueline Tower, at the water s edge on the north bank, the river having altered course since medieval times (stop entrance not included) Monastery of Jeronimos ( visit of the Church ) - The monastery was founded by king Manuel and designed by the architect Boytac, is considered to be the Jewel of Manueline Art. Begun in 1502 not long after the return of Vasco da Gama from the Indies and situated in Restelo harbour in Belem from which the explorer s ships had sailed, it benefited from the riches then pouring into Lisbon.) Dinner in typical restaurant preceded by a wine tasting at Solar do Vinho do Porto. The Solar in Lisbon is located on the Rua de S. Pedro de Alcântara, in the Bairro Alto, right in the heart of one of the most typical neighbourhoods of the city. Here, in a calm and relaxed atmosphere, the visitor is offered a range of types and brands of Port Wine to taste. 2 of 5

3 Sunday, 26 th June 2011 Lisboa After breakfast departure for a fullday tour to Sintra, Cascais and Estoril: Sintra - The small town of Sintra, built right up against the north slope of the Serra, was for six centuries the favourite summer residence of the Kings of Portugal, who were attracted by cool climates and the beauty of the town s setting. Three different areas make up the town of Sintra: the old Town which is grouped round the royal palace; the modern town - Estefania - and the former village of S. Pedro. Visit of the Royal Palace. Lunch and visit to the wine cellars in Colares. After lunch continuing to Cascais, both a fishing port of age old tradition and bustling holiday resort. The town has everything in its favour: a mild climate in which sea air combines with cool air from Sintra Massif and fine sand beach lining a beautiful bay (a stop will be made near the bay) Return to Lisbon by passing Estoril and all Lisbon Coast. Dinner at the hotel. Monday, 27 th June 2011 Lisboa After breakfast departure to down south of Lisbon to: Sesimbra, a picturesque small fishing town, with a medieval castle. Like a sentry the ruins of this 13th Century castle built by Sancho II protectively overlooks the village. On our way to Palmela we will make a stop at the wine cellars of José Maria da Fonseca. Here we will have the opportunity to taste some of the typical wines of this region. After having enjoyed the impressive view over the coast, our next stop will be the Castle of Palmela. The Portuguese Government recovered the ancient castle and fortress from the 15th century, which was severely damaged by the earthquake of 1755, and in 1979 it became a deluxe Pousada. The dining room is the former refectory, complete with the monks reading stand. Lunch at Quinta de Catralvos in Azeitão Return to Lisbon or Oporto. 3 of 5
