3 Stockley Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment Job Description Job Purpose Head of ICT Line Manager: Assistant Principal Specialism To lead and manage a team of staff in providing stimulating and appropriately differentiated ICT and Business Studies for students aged To be a member of the ICT and Business Studies Team and under the direction of the Assistant Principal Specialism contribute to high standards of teaching and learning and the raising of standards of achievement. To make a significant contribution to the vision and direction of Stockley Academy where innovative and inspirational learning for all is the core value. Responsibilities and Tasks To be responsible for the teaching of ICT and Business Studies throughout the school To lead and manage a team of staff in provision of stimulating, quality ICT and Business Studies curriculum for students aged 11-18, which meets external requirements and school and department objectives To keep up to date with new developments in the curriculum and to liaise with colleagues as appropriate To ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place for student assessment and for reporting the assessments with the school s framework for assessment. To communicate examination entries to the Exams Officer as directed. To monitor and evaluate student progress within the department and to be responsible for the promotion of raising student achievement Promoting the ethos of inclusion and challenge within the context of the Academy s vision and mission statements and in so doing reinforce the institutional culture of high expectations To teach effectively across the whole age and ability range including SEN & Gifted and talented for an appropriate proportion of the week To be responsible overall for managing the behaviour and discipline of students with the curriculum area To be responsible for ensuring that all relevant whole school policies are implemented as appropriate with a departmental context

4 To participate in the school s Performance Management Policy and assist the Assistant Principal Specialism to ensure appropriate staff development and training opportunities are provided for members of the ICT/Business Studies curriculum team, including arrangements for the observation, support and assessment of NQT s To prepare, implement and monitor an up to date Department Improvement Plan in line with the current Academy Improvement Plan. To be responsible for monitoring and developing the Department Handbook To communicate appropriately with colleagues, other schools, advisors, LEA officers, governors and parents To manage effectively the delegated departmental budget and the ensure resources are deployed to best advantage To ensure that the team rooms, resources and equipment are maintained in good order with particular regard to Health & Safety, Security and Display To ensure that stimulating learning environment exists in the team area To participate in the pastoral organisation of the school To convene, attend and chair meetings as appropriate, as well as communicate/disseminate information to other members of the team To support and encourage school activities, e.g. to participate in working groups To act as a role model to students and to support the ethos of the school To carry out duties and responsibilities necessary for the smooth running of the school, as required by the Principal To fulfil the conditions of employment for school teachers, as laid down in the latest School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document (STP Acts, 1987, 1991 and order 1994) Role review This job description sets out the main duties of the post at the time of drafting. It cannot be read as an exhaustive list. These responsibilities will be discussed annually as part of the Head of ICT/Business Studies annual performance review and are subject to change. However, it may be altered at any time subject to need in consultation with the postholder subject to the Principal s approval..

5 Person Specification Head of ICT 1. Knowledge and Experience Essential Desirable Qualified Teacher Status. Evidence of continuing professional development. Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum and courses and qualifications. Evidence of successful teaching across the age and ability range. Ability to raise standard of attainment with ICT/Business Studies and across the curriculum by students applied use of ICT/Business Studies. Ability to use assessment to raise standards of achievement. Experience of initiating/managing aspects of ICT/Business Studies curriculum development. 2. Skills Knowledge and Aptitudes Essential Desirable Ability to teach across the ICT/Business Studies at KS3-KS5. Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences, orally and in writing. Knowledge of current educational management and curricular issues relating to ICT/Business Studies. Evidence of Management and Leadership skills: Time management The ability to motivate others The ability to contribute to staff development Delegation Ability to use ICT both as a teaching tool and for administrative purposes.
