1 PlanGridEV Main issues addressed/objectives: Design new planning and operation rules for the optimal integration of Electric Vehicles (EV) considering DER integration Leverage EV as controllable loads (smart charge) Ensure safe operation of the network and deploy cost-effective solutions considering new business models Satisfy consumer needs Achieve a harmonized European approach

4 Results achieved: PlanGridEV Some deliverables have already been produced: D1.1. DSO, OEM and other actor requirements, regulatory gap analysis, expected benefits of new planning rules D1.2. Future scenarios: DER, EV, EV charging infrastructure, network infrastructure, business D1.4. State of the art in distribution planning methods D2.1. EV grid integration business scenarios D4.1. Definition of the optimization problem and tools specification D8.1. Dissemination and exploitation plan D8.2. Project website: A first OEM forum took place in Vienna last September

5 Results achieved: PlanGridEV Business scenarios (Tecnalia): A first study has been performed on the economic impact of each of the scenarios in distribution systems costs. Reductions in grid investments could be used to remunerate EV users

6 Expected Results: PlanGridEV A planning tool prototype will be developed allowing to: Propose a concrete set of projects to expand the grid Schedule the development of the projects in the planning period Recreate grid operational environment for proper simulation of demand response, including EV, DER control and other actions. Enable advanced system controllability by means of ICT technologies as alternative to copper investment Perform robust analyses of a system facing uncertainties Describe a multi-objective problem adaptable to planners needs The new methods will be tested using the infrastructure and existing pilot projects of involved utilities New planning rules for distribution grids will be proposed An investment strategy will be developed for the selected best scenario

7 PlanGridEV Impact of project results Scalability and Replicability potential European harmonization is sought The planning tool will try to address a wide range of technical and management contexts The software will be designed as standalone solution but it will take into account future integration into DSO platforms It is expected that operational and planning rules will be transferred by DSOs to regular procedures in the future

8 PlanGridEV Impact of project results IPR Issues The prototype tool for network planning will be further developed and marketed. The IP will be protected by involved partners. The main responsible for the product is Tractebel. New algorithms by research centres might be exploited by them. DSOs will have access to the prototype during the project

9 PlanGridEV Impact of project results Knowledge Sharing Results will be disseminated in the web site and through project workshops (with external participants), publications, participation in conferences and two project events (mid-term, final) Interaction with other relevant EU projects such as: Grid+, Green emotion, Cotevos, Elvire The participation of universities will transfer knowledge to their future students
