FAQ OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE Q: What sensors are compatible with my station? A: The W186-E will work with this station. Q: Outdoor temperature shows dashes. A: Dashes means the connection is lost between the display and the outdoor sensor. Batteries are the most common problem. A: This sensor reads down to 20 degrees F. when the temperature is below that, the outdoor temperature can show OFL, HH.H, dashes or stick at a number. A: Distance/Resistance can cause loss of sensor signal. Avoid more than 1 wall, window, tree etc., between the display and the sensor. UV coated windows may actually reflect the signal. Stucco walls will absorb the signal. A: It may be helpful to orient the Display 90 degrees towards the Thermohygro sensor for better reception. A: Relocate the sensor or the display for better reception. Signal strength is best when the sensor is mounted at least 6 feet in the air. A: Complete a restart for display with the temperature sensor: A: Batteries remain the #1 warranty issue we see. Use batteries dated six or more years in advance of the current year in the sensor. Batteries dated earlier than six years from now may still work, but may be unstable in performance. On a voltmeter that reads numerically, a minimum voltage of 1.48V for each battery is necessary for proper performance TRY THIS FIRST: DISTANCE: bring the sensor, display together inside, and have the units 5-10 feet apart with nothing between them. DISPLAY: Hold the SEARCH button for 5 seconds until the temperature area starts to flash. SENSOR: Remove battery cover and press and release the TX button to send the signal. WAIT: Wait for 2 minutes for the Display to beep and the outdoor temperature to appear. FACTORY RESTART: If the above procedure does not work please try the factory reset below. FACTORY RESTART: DISTANCE: bring the sensor, display together inside, and have the units 5-10 feet apart with nothing between them. REMOVE POWER: Remove all power (batteries and a/c) from sensor and display. DISCHARGE ELECTRICITY: Press one of the buttons on the display at least 20 times to clear all memory. Verify that the display is blank before proceeding. UNPOWERED FOR 10 MINUTES: Let the all units sit with batteries out for 10 minutes. DISPLAY FIRST: Power on the main unit with batteries or a/c adapter and set the Time Zone & Weather Icon:

Time Zone will flash EST. Press and release the UP or DOWN button to select the Time Zone. Press and release the SET button. Weather Forecast Icons will flash. Press and release the UP or DOWN button to select the forecast Icon that represents your current local weather. Press and release the SET button to confirm. Temperature area will flash as the display searches for a signal from the outdoor transmitter. SENSOR SECOND: Insert fresh alkaline batteries into the transmitter, observing the correct polarity. PRESS TX BUTTON ON SENSOR: Press the TX button on the back of remote Sensor to transmit RF signal. Keep the transmitter 5-10 feet from the weather station. WAIT: Wait for 5 minutes for the Display to beep and the outdoor temperature to appear. CONNECTION: When RF connection is established, the respective temperature & humidity will appear on the main unit. Allow the sensor and display to sit together for 15 minutes to establish a strong connection. PLACE SENSOR OUTSIDE: To ensure sufficient 434 MHz transmission, the outdoor transmitter should be placed a distance of no more than 200 feet (60 meters, open air) from the Color Weather station. Q: Intermittent temperature/humidity. A: This sensor reads down to 20 degrees F. when the temperature is below that the outdoor temperature can show OFL, HH.H, dashes or stick at a number. If the temperature is hovering at about 20 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature may come and go. A: Please check the instruction manual specifications for the range of the humidity sensor (20%- 99%). If the humidity is outside of this range, the unit will see OFL, HH.H or dashes. A: Freezer test- Confirm the display is reading the correct sensor. Place it in the freezer for an hour and watch the temperature drop on the display unit. A: Indoor Distance Test: Please complete the Restart with sensor and display 5-10 feet apart. After 15 minutes if there is a reading in the outdoor temperature area, move the sensor to another room with 1 wall between the sensor and the display. Observe to see if the temperature remains on consistently. If the temperature remains while in the house then it is likely an issue with distance/resistance outside. Please move the sensor to a different location outside to see if the temperature will hold. A: Distance/Resistance can cause loss of sensor signal. Avoid more than 1 wall, window, tree etc., between the display and the sensor. UV coated windows may actually reflect the signal. Stucco walls will absorb the signal. A: Check batteries. This is the primary warranty issue. Q: Outdoor Temperature shows OFL (outside factory limits). A: Check batteries. This is the primary warranty issue. Over powered or underpowered batteries can cause this reading. A: This sensor reads down to 20 degrees F. when the temperature is below that the outdoor temperature can show OFL, HH.H, dashes or stick at a number. A: Replace sensor.

Q: Outdoor Temperature shows HH.H (outside factory limits). A: Check batteries. This is our primary warranty issue. Over powered or underpowered batteries can cause this reading. A: This sensor reads down to 20 degrees F. when the temperature is below that the outdoor temperature can show HH.H, OFL, dashes or stick at a number. A: Replace sensor. Q: Outdoor sensor drains batteries in a short time. A: Batteries should last a 1-year, or more if batteries are good when inserted. If the batteries in the sensor are not lasting that long, please try these tasks: Test a new set of alkaline batteries. Write down the date of installation and the voltage of the batteries. When the batteries fail, please note the date and voltage again. This is helpful in determining the problem. A: Complete the Restart and confirm that everything is working after a battery change. A: Battery leakage may cause a sensor to drain batteries quickly. Q: Outdoor temperature/humidity is inaccurate. A: Please check that the display is not stuck in Min/Max mode. Some displays will remain in Min or Max mode until moved back to normal mode. NOTE: the outdoor sensor will read its environment. If the sensor is in the house, the unit will read the house temperature in the outdoor temperature area. A: Side-by-side test. Bring the sensor in the house and place it next to the display for 2 hours. Compare indoor and outdoor temperature. The temperatures should be within 4 degrees to be considered within tolerance. Humidity should be within 14% to be within tolerance. A: If the sensor reads correctly while next to the display then try a different location outside. Look for heat sources such as sunlight, door or window frames, or reflected heat. Check for the same things on whatever the reading is compared to. Q: Humidity shows 99%, OFL, HH.H or dashes but temperature works. A: Please check the instruction manual specifications for the range of the humidity sensor (20%- 99%). If the humidity is outside of this range the unit will see OFL or dashes. A: If the weather station is reading a sensor that does not have humidity, it will show 99% for humidity. A: Complete a restart with fresh batteries. Q: Sensor fell and no longer works. A: First try the restart for the station with fresh batteries in the sensor. Often a sensor or the batteries were just shocked and may reconnect with a proper restart and fresh batteries.

A: A replacement may be purchased at Q: Change from Fahrenheit to Celsius. A: Temperature Station: Press and release the C/F button on the side of the weather station once to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Q: Mount the outdoor temperature sensor. A: Mount the Temperature sensor vertically and under a bit of an overhang. The sensor should be protected from standing rain or snow, and from the overhead sun, which can cause it to read incorrectly. Generally, under an eave or deck rail works well. A: It is best to mount the sensor with screws as tape can fail causing the sensor to fall. Tape is great for positioning until the best location can be determined where the sensor can maintain contact with the display. A: Outdoor sensors are water resistant but not water proof. Mount the sensor under some type of overhang such as an eave or deck rail. This will also protect from overhead sun. A: Distance/Resistance can cause loss of sensor signal. Avoid more than 1 wall, window, tree etc., between the display and the sensor. UV coated windows may actually reflect the signal. Stucco walls will absorb the signal. A: Avoid placing the display within 6 feet of electronics such as microwave, router, or cordless phones. A: If possible, mount the sensor on the North side of the building to prevent sun from causing incorrect temperature readings. DISPLAY INFORMATION: Q: Forecast icons are incorrect. North American Time Zones are: -4 Atlantic EST Eastern CST Central MST Mountain PST Pacific -9 Alaska -10 Hawaii A: If the Time Zone is set correctly, please check that the DST setting is correct. Generally this indicator is left ON all year unless the unit live is an area that does not observe Daylight Saving Time. The DST indicator being on just means that the display is set to change appropriately in the spring and fall when the signal is received from the WWVB signal. A: Check to see if the unit has a Tower Icon showing on the Display. If this tower icon does not show, please reposition the display near and exterior wall or window that faces Fort Collins, Colorado where the WWVB signal is generated. It is not unusual to take up to 5 nights to acquire a signal if there are atmospheric or environmental interferences. A: Put Display in a window (with the front or back) facing Ft. Collins, Colorado and leave overnight. If there is not a window facing this direction, locate the Clock or Weather Display near an outside wall and point the unit in this general direction. A: Check it in the morning. If the display shows the correct time, the unit has successfully received the WWVB signal. If the time is still incorrect allow the device 3-4 more nights to set correctly. Q: The display is dim. A: Please note if the display is dim at every angle.. A: If the display is left in the sun it may develop a cloudy discoloration. A: If the display has been working properly for a while, and now the display is dim, remove power from display. This is generally a power related issues. Remove all power from display. Leave the display unpowered for 1-2 hours Plug 6-volt a/c power cord into the wall first, then into the weather station. After 15 minutes, program as usual. If the display is still dim the unit may need to be replaced. Q: Indoor Temperature is showing dashes or OFL (outside factory limits). A: This is generally a power related issues. Remove all power from display. Leave the display unpowered for 1-2 hours Plug 6-volt a/c power cord into the wall first, then into the weather station. After 15 minutes, program as usual. If the indoor temperature is still dashes or OFL, the unit may need to be replaced.

Q: Indoor Temperature is inaccurate. A: Bring the outdoor sensor in the house and place next (within 1 foot) to the display for 2-hours. The indoor and outdoor temperature readings should be within 4 degrees to be within tolerance. A: Look for sources of heat or cold that may affect the display. Consider vents, window and doorframes, sunlight, etc. Q: Low battery icons. A: It is recommended to replace the batteries in all units every 12 months to ensure optimum accuracy of these units. A low battery icon will display next to the outdoor temperature when the transmitter batteries are low and next to the indoor temperature then the batteries in the weather station are low.
