2 Technical description Design Manufactured as circular or rectangular baffles containing sound absorbing material with a reinforced surface layer, fire resistance rated to B-s1,d0 in accordance with EN ISO The sides of the baffles are perforated. The baffles are mounted onto the supplied mounting frames. Materials and surface treatment The baffles are manufactured in sheet steel. The mounting frames are made of galvanised sheet steel. The baffles are painted with our pure white standard paint, RAL 9003/NCS S 0500-N. The unit is also available in other standard colours: Dusty grey 7037, white aluminium RAL 9006, jet black RAL 9005, grey aluminium RAL 9007 and white RAL Accessories Wall sleeve: VGC. Circular telescopic wall sleeve made in galvanized sheet steel. VGR. Rectangular telescopic wall sleeve made in galvanized sheet steel. Planning The units are designed primarily for studded walls with plasterboard or similar covering. If the units are installed in a concrete wall or if a connecting tube of steel is used, the sound reduction value ( ) is reduced by approx.10 db. A transfer unit should be chosen so that the insulating properties of the wall are not reduced. To quickly determine this, a rule of thumb can be used: transfer unit = Sound classification of the wall + 5 db(a) To calculate the resulting value for the wall see examples 1 and 2 below. Table 1. shows the reduction value R, and the value for transfer units with reference to 1 m 2 transmission area. The measurements were carried out according to ISO 140-1, 2, 3. Installation Cut the hole in accordance with the measurements table. The moutning frame is screwed into place in the hole. The baffles are attached to the frame as shown in the figures 1 and 2. If the wall sleeve is used, this can either be attched to the mounting frame or the wall. The wall sleeve is either pulled out or pushed together to suit the wall thickness in question. See figures 3 and 4. Maintenance The grille can be cleaned when necessary using lukewarm water and detergent. Example 1: 1. A standard CGV 100 is mounted in a wall with an area of 10 m 2 (=S 0 )the hole cut having a diameter of 100 mm and 1 m 2 transmission area (=S 1 ). 2. R W wall = 45 db. R W transfer unit = 35 db. 3. Difference wall - transfer unit = 10 db. 4. Follow the points on the axes of the graph for 10 db and 10 m 2. The intersection of these two lines indicates how much the reduction value of the wall decreases when transfer unit is installed - in this case about 3 db. 5. Just as in example 1 above, we can see that the reduction value of the wall decreases by about 3 db. 5. In the wall in this example, the total value will be 42 db (45-3). I.e. with a transfer unit in the wall, the resulting wall = 42 db. 6. wall = 42 db. transfer unit = 35 db 7. Difference wall - transfer unit = 7 db. 8. Follow the points on the axes of the graph for 7 db and 10 m 2. We can see that the reduction value of the wall now dereases by about 2 db. The db(a) values are for rooms with normal acoustic absorbtion of 4 db. The db(c) value is normally 6-9 db s higher than the db(a) value.
