1 FRIDAY, 10 TH, JUNE, 2016 CELEBRATING QUEEN ELIZABETH S 90 TH BIRTHDAY. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAAM! Welcome back to the last part of the Summer Term. We hope you had an enjoyable Half Term Holiday. NEW INTAKE This week we met the parents of our new children that will be joining us in September. On Monday, 13th June, 2016 the children and their parents are invited to a Teddy Bear s Picnic from 1:15pm 2:15pm, then they will start their induction process. The Class have been split into two Groups, A & B. Sessions are as follows: Monday, 20 th June, :15pm 2:45pm Group A Tuesday, 21 st. June, :15pm 2:45pm Group B Monday, 27 th June, :15pm 2:45pm Group A Tuesday, 28 th June, :15pm 2:45pm -Group B Parents, please remember to bring in all your yellow forms duly completed. These are your Admission forms, Home School Agreement, Milk Form, Free School Meal Application Forms, menu choices, and Intimate Care Policy. Thank you. SPORTS DAYS This year s Sports days are as follows:- Key Stage 1 Tuesday 5 th July, afternoon Key Stage 2 Wednesday 6 th July 2016 afternoon You are all welcome to come along and support your child/ren and their friends. Let s hope we have some lovely weather too!! SUMMER HOLIDAY CLUB If you want to use the Holiday Club at any time during the Summer Holidays, then please return the Booking Form which has been sent home, (if you have misplaced it please come and collect one from the carousel outside the office). Thank you to those parents who have returned theirs along with a deposit of 10. We need lots more bookings, so please can you return your forms ASAP. If you know of anybody else who needs childcare throughout the holidays or the odd day but they do not come to St. Mary s then they too can use the Club. It is open to anybody in the community, as long as they are aged between 4 (and are due to start School in September) and 11 years old.

2 VISION, VALUES AND AIMS At St. Mary s our aim is for every child to become a Successful Learner, Responsible Citizen, Effective Contributor and Confident Individual. This will allow them to become a successful member of the local, national and global community. The staff and pupils contributed and selected our core values (the whole list can be viewed on our website). We aspire to put these values into practice in our daily lives. Our Value for June is HAPPINESS YEAR 6 We have lots going on over the next few weeks. We would ask all our parents to please keep checking our class page and the calendar which can be found under the parents apple so you are kept up to date with where we are and what we are up to!! Thank you. SCHOOL SUMMER HATS We now have summer hats in stock. We sell two styles, a standard cap and a legionnaire style cap and both are As you know our playground and fields are south facing and our children spend a lot of time outside during the school day, so if you do want to purchase a School hat, then please pop into the office. YEAR 6 HIGH SCHOOL INDUCTION DAY Your Induction day to your various High Schools is on Thursday 30 th June, You will be spending the whole day at your new High School. If you usually have hot meals, please make sure you don t book one for this day. Thank you. YEAR 5 TASTER DAY WEOBLEY HIGH SCHOOL Your taster day at the High School is on Monday, 11 th July, Even if your child is not expected to attend Weobley High School from September 2017, this is a good opportunity for all the children to experience aspects of life in a High School. SWIMMING HATS - Please remember every child, boys and girls will need a swimming hat. We sell them in School per hat. Thank you

3 LONDON TRIP We are now planning the trip to London for 2017, (Tuesday 23 rd May Friday, 26 th May, 2017, just before Half Term), and have sent out the information letter. At this stage we are asking for a deposit of 30 to secure your place on the trip. This will need to be paid by Friday, 1 st. July Unfortunately if your child changes their mind at a later date we will not be able to refund your deposit as we will already have booked various tickets. We therefore look forward to receiving your deposit. If you have any queries about the trip then please come and speak to any of the staff that accompanied the year 6 children, Mrs. Jones (teacher), Mrs. Jones, Service Children Coordinator, Mr. Moynihan, Mrs. Dixon or myself, Mrs. Pritchard. PTFA SPONSORED EVENT MUCKY RUN On Friday, 1 st. July, the PTFA will be holding a Sponsored Mucky Run as their summer fundraiser this year, the children will be able to run/jog/walk and get mucky in return for sponsorship. However we are looking for the following items, and if you can help/donate please let us know. Thank you. Paddling Pools Straw Bales VACANCY -LUNCHTIME SUPERVISOR Hours of work 5.80 per week - 11:40am 1:07pm - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday Term time only per hour and per annum. We are looking for a Lunchtime Supervisor. In the first instance the Contract will be up to the 31st August You will be required to assist with lunch time duties and supervise other children during the lunch time. We would also like the post holder to plan activities for the children in liaison with the other lunchtime supervisors. Interested? Please download an application from our website or come and see Mrs. Pritchard in the office - Closing Date Friday, 24 th June, 2016 STAFF ON DUTY May we please remind all parents/carers that when staff are on duty they are not to be disturbed/distracted. This is for health and safety reasons. Your co-operation in this matter would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

4 YEAR 6 TRIP CRUCIAL CREW All year 6 pupils in Herefordshire are invited to attend Crucial Crew which is a multi-agency event aiming to provide an interactive way of teaching children to become more aware of having a healthy lifestyle, personal safety and learn how to react to dangerous situations. The event is taking place at Leominster and the children will be transported there and our day has been allocated for Monday, 27 th June The coach will leave school at 0900 hours and will be back at school by the end of the day. Healthy lunchboxes and drinks as normal please. There is a payment required to attend the event of 6 per child, and this includes the coach. Please can you send payment by Friday, 24 th June, Thank you. SEA LIFE CENTRE BIRMINGHAM We have 2 separate trips visiting the Birmingham Sea Life Centre this year. The first trip is our Year 1 class on Tuesday, 28 th. June, Your trip will cost Year 2 & Year 4 will be travelling to the Centre on Monday, 4 th. July 2016 and the cost of your trip is Both classes will be required to be in school by 08:45am as the coaches will be leaving at 09:00am. Estimated time back to school will be in between 4:00pm 4:30pm. All children are to wear full School Uniform please. There is a shop at the Sealife Centre and children are permitted to bring some spending money, but no more than 3 please. All children are to bring a packed lunch please and plenty of drinks. However please no sweets, no cans of drinks or glass bottles. Thankyou. SUMMER HOLIDAY CLUB Can you help us? If there are any parents/carers that can help the School by advertising our Holiday Club in their work place then please can you contact Mrs. Pritchard. Please remember our Club is open to any child who is aged 4 years (due to start school in September) up to the age of 11 (year 6 leavers). Thank you. SUMMER DRESSES Do you have any spare summer dresses aged between 4 & 6 years? If so can you donate them to school? Thank you.

5 Attendance Update As you know each week we present the class with the highest percentage attendance with a Certificate which we post in the front entrance on our news board. We have run the statistics for this week and Class 6 are this week s winners. Well done Class 6!! Attendance as follows:- Class R 95.4% Class % Class % Class % Class % Class % Class 6 99% Whole School Target 2015/ % Whole School Attendance this week 96.9 % Boys you have beaten the girls again this week!! In Six out of Seven Classes the boys are better attenders this week with Class 2 and Class 4 boys having 100% attendance. Well done boys. What do I do when my child is sick? When your child is poorly, an initial telephone call notifying us on the day of your child s absence is needed by 0930am. We must also receive a note explaining the reason for the absence upon their return. Planned Absence During Term Time. Please remember we are unable to authorise any absence from School due to holidays during term time without a discussion with the head teacher. Only absences of an exceptional circumstance will be considered. Please note this is also the case for requesting a day off. E.g. visiting grandparents, etc. A minimum of Six (6) weeks notice is required. As we know we will be celebrating Fathers Day on Sunday 19 th June, Our PTFA have been very busy making up some great presents for our Dads and they will be selling these over two afternoons as follows:- Wednesday 15 th June 2016 from 3:00pm Thursday 16 th June 2016 from 3:00pm The PTFA can be found on the playground underneath year R shelter (just outside the staffroom). Gifts are priced between 2 & 3

6 LEAVERS SERVICE CATHEDRAL As a Church School, we take part in the Diocesan Year Six Service and the Celebration Team at the Diocese welcome all our Year 6 children and those at other schools to a special celebration of achievement and blessing for all those who are moving on to Secondary School. This takes place on Monday, 4 th. July 2016 from 10.15am 2.45pm at the Cathedral. The children will be taking part in a series of workshops, as well as activities inside the Cathedral. Each workshop is run by experienced leaders. A final act of worship with Bishop Alistair takes place in the Cathedral, where we celebrate together. Parents are welcome to join in this service of celebration and reflection which will begin at 2:00pm.
