22 Krevende offshore marine operasjoner Krevende marine operasjoner utfordrer mennesker, fartøyer og utstyr til det ytterste. (Eks. ankerhåndtering, riggforflytting, tungløftoperasjoner, sub sea konstruksjon, FPSO offloading og økt aktivitet i arktiske strøk). Dypere vann, tyngre laster, større krefter, tøffere omgivelser, vanskelige og krevende værforhold, etc. Kontrollsystemer, organisasjoner og arbeidsoppgaver blir stadig mer komplekse og omfattende. Konsekvensen ved at feil oppstår eller at operatørene tar feil beslutninger i kritiske faser av slike operasjoner kan ha katastrofale implikasjoner.

23 What s wrong with the current situation? Users are flooded with too much information, and lose mastery of the situation. Users need to criss-cross the bridge consulting screens to create a cohesive picture of the situation. In alarm situations, many buttons and indicators start flashing. Heartbeats race, without a sense of what can be done. Audio alarms are distracting and tiring. Loud noise leads to irritated and angry operators. When the screen is filled up with alarms, the operator just has to pick out some using gut instinct.

Hvordan gi operatøren/brukeren best mulig beslutningsstøtte i samvirke mellom mennesket og stadig mer autonome maskiner og systemer? Hvordan redusere kompleksitet og feature creep? Hvordan utforme opplæring og trening best mulig, bl.a. ved bruk av simulatorer? Hvilke designprinsipper er de beste for å oppnå optimal Situation Awareness og Decision Support?

32 User-Centered Design Organize technology around the user s goals, tasks and abilities. Technology should be organized around the way users process information and make decisions. Technology must keep the user in control and aware of the state of the system. Tech think Human think Task think

33 User-Centered Design Change of focus from boxes, systems and equipment to function, information and operation, i.e. change from technical-centered towards user-centered thinking. Adaptation of user functions and information to operational context. Focus on the 20% of the functions used 80% of the time, i.e. make things simple and intuitive. 34 What is Situation Awareness (SA)? Basically, SA is being aware of what is happening around you and understanding what that information means to you now and in the future. The formal definition of SA breaks down into three separate levels: Level 1 perception of the elements in the environment Level 2 comprehension of the current situation, and Level 3 projection of future status Source: Designing for Situation Awareness.
