Topic#: C reated: October 2007 Introduction ActiveEvent ActiveX control allows you to notify the Historian Event system when an event occurs in another application such as the Wonderware InTouch. You can use the ActiveEvent in any application that uses a COM- enabled scripting language to detect an event for that application. Application Versions In this example, we will use InTouch HMI Software 9.5 and later IndustrialSQL Server Historian 9.0 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 The InTouch and Historian applications reside on separate computers. Procedure The procedure includes the following tasks: Create the ActiveEvent Tag Install the ActiveEvent Control Configure DCOM Security Install the Control and Create the Event Script Create the On Show Event Trigger Script Create the ActiveEvent Tag The InSQL Event tag stores your event data. 1. Create a new Event tag and enter the tag name in the Unique Tag Name field. 1/13

In the Tag Finder dialog box, add the following InSQL tags: SysMinutesRun, SysPerfCPU0, and SysSpaceMain. 3/13

6 FIGURE 8: SELECT MODULES TO START Install the ActiveEvent Control The ActiveEvent control must be installed on the container application's machne for configuration and use. For this example, InTouch HMI Software is used as the ActiveX container application. 1. Insert the Historian Server 9.0 CD into a CD- Rom drive from a machine running InTouch. 2. Select Modify then click Next. 6/13

8 In this task we set attributes and permissions for the external detector to use with the ActiveEvent. 1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run. The Run dialog box appears. 2. Type DCOMCnfg in the field and click OK. The Component Services window appears. 3. Expand Component Services/Computers/My Computer/DCOM Config. A DCOM Configuration Warning popup message appears: FIGURE 11: DCOM CONFIGURATION WARNING 4. Click Yes to acknowledge the message. 5. In the DCOM Config list, right- click the EventDetector Class and select Properties. 6. Click the Security tab. 7. Select Customize in the Access Permissions area and click Edit. The Access Permissions dialog box appears. 8. Click Add. The Select User, Computers, or Groups dialog box appears. 9. In the Enter the object name to select, enter Everyone and click Check Names. 10. Once the Everyone group has been verified, click OK. 11. The Access Permission dialog box appears. Select Everyone and check Allow Local Access and Remote Access. 9 12. Click OK to accept the changes. 13. Click OK to return to the EventDetector Class Properties dialog box. 14. Select Customize in the Launch and Permissions panel and then click Edit. 15. Repeat steps 6 through 10 to add the Everyone group to the list of users who have launch permissions. FIGURE 13: LAUNCH PERMISSION CONFIGURATION 16. Click OK to close the EventDetector Class Properties dialog box. The main EventDetector Class window appears. 17. Click Apply and then OK to close the window. Install the Control and Create the Event Script Now we can write a sample script that will notify the historian event system of the external event. 1. Open an InTouch application using WindowMaker. 2. Select the ArchestrA Historian ActiveEvent in the Available ActiveX Controls list then click Install. The ArchestrA Historian ActiveEvent control is added to the Available ActiveX controls list. 9/13

10 FIGURE 14: WIZARD/ACTIVEX INSTALLATION 3. Click Close. 4. Click the Wizard Hat in WindowMaker to drag and drop the aahevent ActiveX Control to the InTouch screen. 5. Double- click the aahevent ActiveX Control to review the control name and properties. 6. Uncheck the Visible property so that the control is invisible on the InTouch screen in View (Runtime) mode. 11 7. Click OK. Create the On Show Event Trigger Script Open the InTouch Window Script editor and select Condition type On Show, then enter the script example below. The script uses ActiveEvent to connect to an IndustrialSQL Server historian and trigger an event. The event gets snapshots of the configured tags and writes them to the Event History table. The script first initializes the historian computer and Event Tag, then calls the InvokeEventEx() method. 12 FIGURE 16: ACTIVEEVENT WINDOW SCRIPT Note: Synchronize the system time for the ActiveEvent computer with the system time for the Historian. If the ActiveEvent computer time is ahead, the event system may generate NULL values for snapshot data.
