1 List of health requirements for application of swimming pool licence Documentary Requirements Submit a copy of the Swimming Pool Format Submit a copy of Schematic Diagram of Swimming Pool. Submit a copy of the characteristics of the Pump and Filter used for the swimming pool. Submit a copy of the latest water analysis (eg. bacteriological and chemical water sampling results) report of the pool water. Registration of Society/MCST (applicable only if society is ROS entity) Letter of Authorisation given to filer (applicable only if application is submitted by filer) You are advised to obtain the Planning Approval from Chief Planner, URA for the use of the premises and for new premises, a Temporary Occupation Permit from the Director, Building Plan & Management Division of BCA. These two documents are not part of the criteria for the approval of licence. Operational Requirements No Littering signboards and adequate bins shall be provided in the ground and premises of the pools. Testing kits for measuring the concentration of the disinfectant and the ph value of the swimming pool water shall be provided and maintained in good working condition at each pool. Notices directing every swimmer to use a shower before entering the pool. Requirements that are to be complied with AFTER the issuing of Swimming Pool Licence Samples of the water in the pool shall be submitted to a government or an accredited laboratory for the chemical and bacteriological analysis at least once a month. The pool water should be maintained at all times in an alkaline condition a indicated by ph 7.2 to 7.8.

2 The bottom and sides of the pool shall be cleansed as often as necessary to keep it in a clean condition. Walls, ceiling and equipment shall be painted as often as necessary to keep them in good condition. The licensee shall keep a daily record of information regarding operation, including readings of disinfectant, residual chlorine, ph and maintenance procedures such as cleaning of filters and quantity of chemicals used and such other data as may be required by the Commissioner of Public Health. A copy of the analysis report on the swimming pool water should be submit monthly to this office. All parts of the pool and pool complex including all auxiliary equipment shall be maintained in good condition. All records of test taken twice daily on the ph value and the residual chlorine of the water shall be made available for inspection by the Commissioner or a Public Health Officer. Water Quality The water in swimming pools shall be maintained at the following quality at All times; I) Physical Quality The pool water shall be clear and clean. No scum or floating impurities shall be allowed to accumulate. The colour of the water shall not exceed 5 Hazen units and the turbidity shall not exceed 5 NTU. II) Bacteriological Quality a) E. Coli shall not be present in any 100 ml sample of water taken from the pool. b) Not more than 10 coliform organisms shall be present in any 100 ml of water taken from the pool. c) Not more than five consecutive samples of the water shall contain any coliform organisms in 100 ml of the water samples d) No sample shall contain more than 200 bacteria per ml as determined

3 by the 24-hour plate count at 37 o C or by the membrane filter method III) Chemical Quality a) A chlorine residual of not less than 1.0 mg per litre and not more than 3.0 mg per litre shall be maintained in the pool. b) If copper sulphate is used as an algicidal agent, it shall not raise the copper concentration of the water by more than 0.2 mg per litre. c) The pool water shall have a ph value of between 7.2 to 7.8. *A copy of the Swimming Pool Format is appended below.
