1 Industrial IT Extended Automation System 800xA System 800xA Version 4.0 3BUF D1 DataDirect Patch 1 Release Notes Introduction This document provides release information for DataDirect patch 1 for System 800xA SV 4.0 (DataDirect may also be referred to as Excel Reporting Services). This patch corrects a problem with licensing that prevents DataDirect from running when there are no DataDirect licenses available. This may occur under the following conditions: when you attempt to run DataDirect on a System 800xA node where DataDirect was installed as a core component (without Information Management Server or Client Toolkit). when all licenses are occupied by users on other nodes. This patch also replaces DataDirect hot fix 1 for Information Management version 4.0 with Roll Up 1. This hot fix corrects a problem with the ABBGetOPCDASimple function. This function should always return a date and a value; however, if only one cell was selected, the function returns the date only. With this fix, if only one cell is selected the value is returned without the date. Install this patch on all Workplace Client nodes, and on any server nodes that run DataDirect without Information Management Server or Client Toolkit software. You can check whether or not this patch has already been installed using the procedure described Verifying the Patch Installation on page 6. Instructions for installing this patch are provided in Installation on page 2. 3BUF D1 1

2 Downloading the Patch Installation File System 800xA Version 4.0 Installation There are five basic steps for installing the patch: 1. Download the patch file from the ABB Library to the computer where it will be installed, and extract the zip file to a suitable location on the computer. 2. Make sure Microsoft Excel is not running. Close any open instances of Microsoft Excel. 3. Uninstall your current version of DataDirect. 4. Install the new version of DataDirect using the extracted.msi file. 5. Verify that the patch has been installed. Detailed instructions for these basic steps are provided in the following sections. Downloading the Patch Installation File The patch is packaged in a zip file in the ABB Library. This zip file contains an msi that installs the new version of DataDirect, and a PDF version of these release notes. Download the patch file from the ABB Library to the computer where the patch is being installed. In the ABB Library drill down to: Product Group = Control Products and Systems Product Family = 800xA Product SubFamily = Information Management Software Product = 800xA 4.0 Information Management Software The patch file name is SV 4.0 DataDirect Patch 1.zip Once the file is downloaded, extract the contents (.msi installation file, and PDF format release notes) to a suitable location. Before you uninstall the current DataDirect software and install the new software, make sure Microsoft Excel is not open on the node where you are performing this procedure. 2 3BUF D1

4 Installing the New Version of DataDirect System 800xA Version 4.0 This launches the InstallShield Wizard for DataDirect, Figure 3. Figure 3. DataDirect Installation Wizard Click Install Now to install DataDirect. The InstallShield Wizard will display the installation status, Figure 4. The installation will take a few minutes, and may appear to be stalled. Do not interfere, and let the installation run to completion. Click Finish when the Wizard indicates that the installation is finished, Figure BUF D1

6 Verifying the Patch Installation System 800xA Version 4.0 Verifying the Patch Installation To verify that the patch has been properly installed, check the version information for DataDirect in the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility as shown in Figure 6. Click on the link for support information. The Support Info dialog should indicate version Figure 6.
