May Anne-Sophie Voumard Managing Director Head of Marketing Services Head of Marketing & Broadcasting Legal Services The International Olympic Committee - Managing the Value of the Olympic Brand During the period, Olympic marketing generated $5.4 billion in revenue, 90% of which is distributed to organisations throughout the Olympic Movement, in order to support the staging of the Olympic Games and to promote the worldwide development of sport. This presentation will demonstrate how the IOC manages its brand as an intangible commercial asset in order to generate, enable and grow long-term revenue streams for the Olympic Movement. 2 Timo Lumme Managing Director Timo Lumme is the Managing Director of IOC Television & Marketing Services, the marketing department of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As Managing Director, Timo is responsible for the sale of all broadcast rights to the Olympic Games, the negotiation and sale of Worldwide Olympic Partnerships as well as the management of the IOC s global sponsorship programme known as TOP. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of the IOC s strategic marketing plan and oversight of Olympic marketing programmes worldwide. Timo joined the IOC in 2004 from ESPN where he worked as Vice President Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) since He combines a strong background in the worlds of marketing and broadcast with Olympic Games experience. He started his career in 1988 with the International Management Group (IMG) where he held marketing and management positions in London, Paris and Milan. Specific Olympic Games work includes the 1992 Albertville and 1994 Lillehammer Olympic Winter Games. Other achievements include three years at Nike as European Sports Marketing Director, negotiating and overseeing commercial sponsorship arrangements with over 1,000 athletes, teams, events and federations. He also worked in new media for Quokka Sports, including as general manager for nbcolympics.com, complementing NBC's coverage of the Sydney 2000 and Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Games. A qualified lawyer from the London firm of Slaughter and May, Lumme speaks five languages (Finnish, English, French, Italian and German).
3 Melinda S. May Head of Marketing Services Melinda May is Head of Marketing Services at IOC Television & Marketing Services, the marketing department of the International Olympic Committee. Melinda s role encompasses leading the management of the Olympic brand and facilitating the sales and servicing of Olympic sponsorship. Her responsibilities include providing strategic brand management expertise - including directing the IOCs worldwide advertising campaigns and global consumer research projects, and overseeing the provision of sales and servicing support for TOP sponsors, Rightsholder Broadcasters, Organising Committees for the Olympic Games and National Olympic Committees - including business development resources, sponsorship activation guidance and consultation, brand education and protection. She also leads departmental business planning and organisational development. Melinda joined IOC Television & Marketing Services in September Prior to her position at the IOC, she worked at The Coca- Cola Company for 11 years. Her last role was Sr. Manager, Olympic Marketing where she led marketing programming development and implementation for Coca-Cola s worldwide sponsorship of the Olympic property. Prior to that, she held a range of other marketing positions at the Company including channel marketing, field marketing and brand marketing. Before joining The Coca-Cola Company, Melinda held various marketing positions within the CPG industry, the software industry, and the commercial printing business. Melinda has an MBA from the University of Houston (1991) and a BSBA degree in Marketing from the University of Denver (1984). She is from Houston, Texas, USA and currently resides in Lausanne, Switzerland.
4 Anne-Sophie Voumard Head of Marketing & Broadcasting Legal Services Anne-Sophie Voumard is the Head of Marketing and Broadcasting Legal Services at IOC Television & Marketing Services, the marketing department of the International Olympic Committee. Anne-Sophie s role encompasses leading the legal support to all revenue generation activities of the International Olympic Committee. Her responsibilities include drafting and negotiation of sponsorship agreements of the International Olympic Committee s TOP marketing programme, as well as broadcasting agreements worldwide. Anne-Sophie is a qualified lawyer from both Geneva and England & Wales bars. She holds an MBA in international management. Anne-Sophie joined IOC Television & Marketing Services in September Her professional background includes more than 14 years of expertise in international sports business, working for UEFA and the America s Cup, as well as sports equipment manufacturer, Columbia Sportswear. Double national Swiss and Portuguese, Anne-Sophie Voumard speaks five languages (French, English, Portuguese, German and Spanish).
