2 Pacific New Media CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN WEB DESIGN University of Hawai i at Manoa Digital communications media have revolutionized the way we live. The rise of the Internet and the dramatic expansion of the www have inspired changes throughout our business, educational, and personal lives. Today, new information technology and digital tools are creating a wealth of professional opportunities and challenges in the multimedia industry; providing new prospects for satisfying, lucrative, and contributory careers. The Pacific New Media Certificate Program at the University of Hawai i at Manoa Outreach College offers a comprehensive course of study in multimedia that balances the creativity and technology required by this dynamic and fast-growing industry. A team of media professionals and educators carefully plans and monitors the curriculum to meet the needs of established professionals in the field and newcomers wishing to learn the scope of multimedia. Pacific New Media offers over 200 workshops each year encompassing the latest developments in commercial software programs, programming skills, visual design and theory, and the production process. Teaching strategies combine theory, demonstration, and hands-on learning in a Mac computer lab to provide an effective foundation of skills necessary for Web design & production. CERTIFICATE IN WEB DESIGN Successful completion of the Pacific New Media Certificate in Web Design requires students to work independently taking what they have learned in workshops and further developing their expertise through sustained practice. The scope of PNM s Web Design Certificate Program addresses the entire production process from planning and idea generation to an examination of existing products and sites. The program integrates three components essential to building a professional career: content, technology, and business. Students in the certificate program independently plan their workshop enrollments to satisfy the following requirements:

Certificate Completion: The certificate program is designed to be completed in one to three years although completion in one year is recommended. Students who successfully complete the certificate program will receive a special icon they can display on their Web site showing that they have graduated from the Pacific New Media Web Design Certificate Program and their names and addresses will be listed on the PNM certificate Web page unless they request otherwise. Registration Requirements: - Prior to registering, students must be computer literate and comfortable working in a Macintosh environment. PNM regularly offers a workshop in Mac fundamentals to assist those unfamiliar with working in a Mac environment. - Each student remits a $100 fee upon entering the certificate program. In addition to this fee, students register and pay the required registration fee for each workshop the student attends to fulfill certificate requirements. Pacific New Media offers workshops on weekdays, nights and weekends to accommodate a variety of schedules. - The ability to work independently is essential to successfully completing this certificate program.
