21 Big Data Science Initiative Study Big Data at UM Big Data academic programming focuses on providing students with knowledge and skills in mathematics, computer science, and management information systems to become effective programmers, developers, and analysts in Big Data. Focused courses in other disciplines (e.g. chemistry, ecology, economics, biology, geosciences, journalism, sociology, physics, forestry) allow students to apply existing dataanalysis tools to problems in their area of interest. The University partners with local businesses to offer students internship opportunities, timely and topical seminars, and exposure to real-world computer security and data analytics problems.
