2 Smart Notebook Software Often instructors use traditional chalk/whiteboards during class to communicate with their students and present course information and content

3 Smart Notebook Software Smart Notebook software, like its name implies, acts as an electronic notebook that can be used to write, edit, retrieve, save, and distribute information written on a SMART Board interactive whiteboard. Instructors can save Notebook files into other formats, such as Adobe Acrobat PDF, so you can share information with your students. Add note pages and refer back to pages anytime during class session

5 Finding SMART Notebook on your Computer To open SMART Board Notebook software you can either click on the icon located on the taskbar and then select "Notebook," or...

6 You can also click on the Start icon at the bottom left hand part of your screen and go to: All Programs SMART Technologies Notebook Software 4. Double click on "Notebook Software" 3. Scroll down to find the "SMART Technologies" folder. 2. Select "All Programs" 1. Click on "Start" Icon

12 Even More Toolbar Button Functions Pens Click on one of these to write on the SMART Board. Magic Pen and Paint can Lines Quick, Straight lines Text or start typing anywhere on the screen. Select: If you want to click on an object, move it, or change it you have to be in select mode. Eraser Circle and tap, or wipe across. Shapes and Shape Recognition Quick shapes to select from.

14 Handwriting to Text After using the pen tool to write you can quickly and easily change the handwriting into typed text. To do this, hit the right click button on the SMART Board and then click on what you just wrote. The window that opens up will provide you with several recognize options. Select the option that correctly recognized your handwriting. NOTE-Depending on how neat or messy the writing is this feature will sometimes fail to recognize handwriting.

16 Properties To change the characteristics of an object, first click on the object and then click the Properties tab. The properties shown depend upon on the type of object you are working with at the time. Changing Fill Effects - many options exist to fill color of an object, including pattern or picture. You can also change the transparency of an object. Changing Line Style- You can also change the color, thickness and style of a line. There are also choices for the start and ending of a line Applying Object Animation- the type, direction, speed, occurrence and repeats are all options in applying animation to objects

17 Properties Page Recording To page record click on 1. Properties 2. Click on Page Recording 3. Click on Start 4. When finished, click on finish 5. To play back, click on play. Rewind Pause Start or Restart Stop

18 Screens Views The shade Full Screen Split Screen Use to hide or reveal information on the screen. The shade can be pulled from any of the four directions and can be closed by clicking on the x Lets you hide distracting parts of notebook and the bottom of your computer screen, and improves readability. Lets you look at two pages of one Notebook file side by side. You can also pin a page in this mode To pin a page: 1. Must be in dual (split screen) mode 2. Click on View (pull down menu) 3. Click on Zoom 4. Click on pin page 5. To unpin, uncheck pin page. Page on the right will change as you proceed through the pages of the notebook presentation

19 Demonstration of Screen Capture By default, each screen capture you take appears on a new page in your file. If you want to save the screen capture to the current page, clear the Capture to new page check box. Screen Capture allows you to take a screen capture of an area to take a screen capture of a window to take a screen capture of the entire screen to take a screen capture of a freehand area

20 Creating Tables The table feature is similar to Word. Click on the table icon to add a table. Right click to add features to the table such as merge, split or delete cells; insert and/or delete rows/columns; or add properties Title

21 Document Camera is a high-resolution web cam that allows a teacher, student or presenter to display a two or three dimensional object while the audience watches. Much more than an overhead projector. Some uses of the Document Camera Lists Groups Group Activities Schedules Agendas Use it with a microscope (needs attachment) Dissection Display bug collection or other scientific objects Display of notebooks with drawings Math Problems Graphs Reflections Calculate Problems Zoom in on rulers and thermometers Show and Tell Display in detail art projects Reading books Share newspaper articles or magazine articles Dictionary and Thesaurus skills Parts of speech Syllables Definitions Synonyms/Antonyms Go over tests and Quizzes Filling in forms Model Writing Topic sentence Indent Quotes Editing Use it with Maps, books, pictures so everyone can see. Note: If an alternative Document Camera is used in place of the Smart Document Camera, then take a picture of work using the alternative camera, save the picture. You will then be able to insert that picture into the Smartboard presentation.
