Current situation Levels of financial capability are too low 10
Financial Capability Strategy MAS has led the development a Financial Capability Strategy. We work with partners to improve people s ability to manage money well, both day-to-day and through significant life events, and their ability to handle periods of financial difficulty. It will focus on developing people s financial skills and knowledge, and improving their attitudes and motivation. 11
Financial Capability Governance MAS has taken a collaborative approach, working with colleagues across industry, Government and the third sector to achieve collective impact 12
Evidence and Evaluation Evidence and evaluation is fundamental to the success of the Strategy. MAS has committed to using evidence to ensure that: resources are directed to populations with unmet needs, and interventions which have been proven to work, and the impact of innovative new interventions is evaluated in a rigorous and consistent way. 13
Evidence and Evaluation MAS will achieve this through: growing the evidence base, through support to improve evaluation practice; and promoting greater sharing and use of evidence, by curating an Evidence Hub and supporting practitioners and funders to use evidence to inform intervention design. 14
Financial Capability Survey In June 2015, MAS conducted a survey into the financial capability of the. Interim results were published in November 2015 The Financial Capability Survey conducted interviews with a nationally representative sample of adults in the, including booster interviews in the devolved regions (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) to ensure a robust base for analysis It will be conducted every two years to measure progress against the Financial Capability Strategy 15
Segmentation: Focusing on the right groups Using the Finanical Capability Survey 2015, MAS developed a segmentation based on income, savings, protection, credit and demographics.
