AMAZING RACE CHALLENGE What is the Amazing Race Challenge? This is a fun fundraiser with your friends, family, co-workers, or neighbors, where players work together in teams and compete against other teams through a series of games or activities. This toolkit is designed for six teams consisting of four to six players, competing for the most points received from the five rounds of different challenges. It can be adjusted to a smaller amount of teams and rounds. Playing the Game: All teams start by playing Round 1, which consists of six activities: Amazing Race Jump Rope; Drink Up; Race Match; Take a Bite; Ball Toss; Word Scramble. Each team will start with a different activity at the same time and must complete it, be given a designated item or completion sticker, in order to move on to the next game. The object of Round 1 is to complete each activity faster than the other teams. The last activity for all teams in Round 1 is the Word Scramble. Each team tries to solve the Word Scramble the fastest to cross the finish line. Once Round 1 is completed by all teams, everyone will move on to Round 2 where each team is paired up with another team to play against each other. Since there are four games left and six teams, two teams will play one game, two teams will play another, and the remaining two will play another, rotating this way until Rounds 2-5 are completed. Example of round and team rotations: TEAM 1 TEAM 2 TEAM 3 TEAM 4 TEAM 5 TEAM 6 Round 1 Amazing Race Amazing Race Amazing Race Amazing Race Amazing Race Amazing Race Round 2 Root Beer Pong Root Beer Pong Round 3 Pictionary Guitar Hero Pictionary Round 4 Guitar Hero 5 Draw Poker 5 Draw Poker 5 Draw Poker Pictionary Pictionary Root Beer Pong Root Beer Pong Guitar Hero Guitar Hero Root Beer Pong Root Beer Pong 5 Draw Poker Round 5 5 Draw Poker Pictionary Guitar Hero Pictionary 5 Draw Poker Guitar Hero

AMAZING RACE CHALLENGE Set Up: Familiarize yourself with the material and instructions given for each activity. There are materials required for each activity, so be sure to review the provided list. Find five friends to help you with the organization, set up and to assist the teams with each activity. Create an evite or customize the provided sample letter to send out for people to register as an individual or team. Registration fees might be easier to collect on the day of the event- that is up to you. Be prepared to make change if people are paying cash, checks should be made payable to Special Olympics Southern California. Have the thank you cards (provided in this packet) ready to give everyone that pays for registration, or makes an extra donation. These cards have our tax ID# for them to use for tax purposes, since their contribution is 100% tax deductible. Customize the provided score cards that will be given to each team to keep track of their points Create name tags for each player with their Team # and their name. If you want to be creative, use the provided templates that look like a marathon race bib number. To avoid confusion between Team and Round rotations, copy the example below and create a bigger version at each activity station. Create a finish line ribbon, for the first Team that finishes the Word Scramble in Round 1 to cross. Getting Started: Each player is placed into 6 teams. Give everyone a name tag, bib number, or created item, identifying their team# and name. Each team should be given a packet, which consists of all six Amazing race activities, and the team score cards for Root Beer Pong, Pictionary, Guitar Hero and 5 Card Draw Poker. Set up each game area with supplies. For the Amazing Race activities: Place the instructions sheet at the designation activity station with the needed supplies for each team. You can create a pre-packaged set of materials in a bag with the Team # on it, or have the volunteer at that station, hand each team a packet as they arrive. Once the team completes the activity and is ready to move on, give each player a sticker, or designated completion item.

AMAZING RACE JUMP ROPE The team with the players that can last, is the team that will jump ahead of the class!!! Choose four people from your team to jump 35 revolutions consecutively with the jump rope enclosed. You must jump one at a time and if you get tangled or stop for any reason before reaching 35, you have to start back at 1. You may jump with either one or both feet at a time. Once completed, retrieve your designated item to continue to the next station.

AMAZING RACE DRINK UP Getting your fluids is a must but drink too fast and you ll get a head rush!!! Choose one person in your team to sit at an empty chair with a baby bottle and drink all 8 ounces of fluid (water, sport drink or juice). You will lose points if you tamper with the bottle or nipple. Once completed, retrieve your designated item to continue to the next station.

AMAZING RACE RACE MATCH This is your night to get inspired, try your own race and be the admired!!! This is an all team-play. Several sport or endurance races in the local area are listed on one side, as well as their race date. Match each of the races with their appropriate date. Once all of your dates correspond with a race, take your guesses to the judge to see if you are right. You will be told which answers are right and if any are wrong, you will have to continue to adjust your answers until all of them match up correctly. Once completed, retrieve your designated item to continue to the next station.

AMAZING RACE TAKE A BITE It s important to fuel your race right, so jump right in and take a bite!!! Choose six people from your team to pull out one item to eat (without looking) in the brown bag with your team number on it. You may start eating as soon as it comes out of the bag. The next player cannot pick an item, until the previous player finishes eating their item. If you have less than six people on your team, other players must eat twice to complete the task. Once all 6 items have been eaten and verified by a judge, your task is complete. Trading of items is not allowed, and point deduction will occur. Once completed, retrieve your designated item to continue to the next station.

AMAZING RACE BALL TOSS A team is built on hard work & trust; pick four players that will leave the others in the dust. Choose four people to pair up from your team to complete this task. One person from each team will stand blindfolded on one pre-marked spot and the other on the pre-marked spot directly across from the blindfolded player. The first pair starts the game by handing the blindfolded player 4 foam balls to toss to the other player who will be holding the cup to catch them. You must catch all 4 balls in the cup and the thrower and catcher cannot cross their respective lines. Once the first two players catch all 4 balls, blindfold your next two players to toss the balls back, catching all 4 balls. The other players can fetch and hand balls to their teammates. Once completed, retrieve your designated item to continue to the next station.

AMAZING RACE SCRAMBLE Your final challenge is not easy, it s a very important person to Special Olympics and is not cheesy. Here s your clue: This person is the founder of Special Olympics You have letters in this package that when arranged in the two words above displays the founder of Special Olympics. Once you string it together, get approval from the judge and then take it across to the finish line!!!! First team to cross the finish line gets 100 points for the game and 1 st place. Points decrease per team to cross, so keep playing until every team has crossed. For this round, choose any phrase or person for the word to unscramble.
