The group, which originally numbered only ten universities, was informally created in The U15 was formalized in 2012 with an office in Ottawa. It is similar to the Russell Group in the United Kingdom and the Group of Eight in Australia. The meeting on May 20, 2010, was a private meeting of university presidents with the Prime Minister of Canada. The University of (Hong Kong) Foundation advances the interests of the University of and of Hong Kong by soliciting and receipting donations for scholarships, enabling students from Hong Kong with financial need to attend the University of. The Foundation focuses on attracting donations from alumni, friends and parents of students in Hong Kong. A sub-committee of the Foundation assists the University in selecting the scholarship recipients.
