4 application which allows tour operators to integrate carbon management into their daily operations European Union SusTRIP The purpose of the Sustainable Tourism Research Intelligence Partnership (SusTRIP) was to jointly plan and implement a series of research activities to help the 2 Seas Region to sustain its vital tourism industry. The aim was to support a more economically competitive industry and provide a firm foundation from which important joint decisions on the future sustainable development of tourism in the region can be made. The programme was structured around the four pillars of sustainable tourism incoming visitors to each partner s region, the industry in the form of professionals and tourism businesses, local communities, and the natural environment which is so critical to the potential success and wellbeing of all visitor destinations. The partners in the programme were Kent County Council, the Comité Régional de Tourisme, Westtoer, HZ University of Applied Sciences and NHTV Breda University of Applied Science Europe Partners for Healthy cities In this research programme (based on a literature review and case studies) the relationships between the urban living environment and health were analysed. The research focused on the possible contributions of different (public and private) actors to health in cities: Which interventions are possible and what are the conditions under which these can be successfully implemented. Case studies were carried out in Vancouver, Helsinki, Udine en Liverpool. Clients: Dura Vermeer, De Stromen-Opmaat groep, Com-wonen en GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond European Union Impact assessment on road safety enforcement and crossborder cooperation An impact study into the necessity and possibilities to improve the enforcement of traffic rules in the Member States of the European Union. The focus was most of all on the cross-border cooperation that is necessary to detect and follow up offences committed by inhabitants of one Member State while driving in another Member State European Union Principles of successful high quality public transport operation and development (PROCEED). Research into the most important characteristics of and recent changes in local and regional public transport in average sized cities of the European Union. Part of the research is case studies in over 60 European cities. The goals were to determine which elements make public transport effective and efficient and subsequently to spread the knowledge about these elements.

5 European Union Evaluation of the Marco Polo Programme ( ). Marco Polo is a subsidy Programme of the European Commission, aimed at generating a modal shift of freight transport by road to short sea shipping, rail and inland waterways. The Programme has to undergo an ex-post evaluation. Among other things the effectiveness, efficiency, impacts and European Added Value are analysed European Union Ex ante evaluation of TEN-T Multi annual Programme TEN-T is a European Programme, aimed at connecting national transport network to create international (priority) axis and guaranteeing good access to these networks and axis. A budget has been made available for the Programme, intended for infrastructure works and intelligent transport systems. For the period a proposal was being prepared for the new TEN-T Programme. This Programme had to undergo an ex-ante evaluation. In this evaluation the available policy options were distinguished and a assessment was made of their costs and risks Netherlands- Inner city Promotion in the Netherlands (Master thesis) Increasingly Dutch inner cities have to compete with one another to attract visitors. One of the way in which visitor can be attracted, is the by promotion, such as advertising in newspapers, outdoor advertising, websites, and brochures. In this master thesis a decision model was developed that can be used to decide which promotion instruments to apply.
