2 September 15 th, 2011 /Thursday/ - 9:00 18:30 During last 15 th and 16 th of September 2011, the third transnational meeting of the project EcoQualifyIII ( ) was held in Çanakkale, at Truva Hotel (Meeting Hall) in Çanakkale. This project runs under the Leonardo da Vinci Programme and is funded by the European Social Fund. The meeting was attended by partners from Greece (1. University of Thessaly and 2. C.V.T. Georgiki Anaptixi); Austria ( Organic Retailers Association /ORA); Bulgaria (1. University of Agribusiness and Rural Development and 2. Eurocentre - Land and Environment); Germany ( Institute Equalita); Romania ( Romanian Resource Centre for the Promotion and Marketing of Organic Products - "EcoR Partner ) and Turkey (1. Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and 2. Organic Product Producers and Industrialists Association (ORGÜDER)). The aims of the meeting were to present: the activities carried out by the consortium during the first year of the project, the results of WP3 Adaptation of Quality Assurance System for training in organic foods retailing to the national requirements the work Plan and Working Packages organizing project activities for the next project period directions for the elaboration of the interim report 2

3 To comply with those aims, a working programme (Annex 1) was designed by the project coordinator and sent via to the consortium enough time before the meeting dates The 3 rd meeting started with the welcome speeches of Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov (University of Agribusiness and Rural Development), Prof. Dr. Stergios Tzortzios the Coordinator of the project (University of Thessaly) - (Annex 2), and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Adem Tekinay (Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University). Mrs. Nazan Cevik presented the meeting agenda in order to become clearer the programme of the day. After that and according to the agenda Mrs. Nazan Cevik and Ahmed Adem Tekinay presented the results of WP3 in title Adaptation of Quality Assurance System for training in organic foods retailing to the national requirements. During this presentation a summary for all the comments, suggestions and proposals for changes by each partner presented. After this, the consortium spent the next two hours, discussing deeply and in a detail way about all the comments on the Handbook and what is necessary and appropriate to be changed. The partnership decided not to accept changes on the hours of each Module. Such changes can be involved in the national version of the Handbook and in the Module that will be tested. Every comment in every topic of the Handbook analysed and finally was decided which of them are going to be included. Mr. Ralph Liebing and 3

4 Mr. Ulrich Diermann expressed their satisfaction about all partners support and work on the improvement of the Quality Handbook and the enrichment of the Quality Assurance System Coffee lunch break After the necessary break, the partnership continued with the acceptance or not of the comments on Handbook. On the same time Mrs. Nazan Cevik made the relevant changes of what was accepted or not in her presentation which is going to be uploaded on dropbox. All the changes on Handbook will be made by the responsible partner of WP3, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and the final version of handbook will be send to all partners during the next days and after that the partners will go on with the translation of the handbook. It was decided that Mrs. Nazan Cevik will send the revised version of the Quality Handbook with the accepted changes by all partners during the meeting till September 25 th 2011 to the coordinator Prof. Dr. Stergios Tzortzios, Mr. Ralph Liebing and Mr. Ulrich Diermann. Then, Mr. Ralph Liebing and Mr. Ulrich Diermann will elaborate the final version of the Quality Handbook till October 20 th Before the next topic Mrs. Mariana Ivanova suggested to prepare a compilation of the Framework analysis that partners elaborated during WP2 for publication on a newsletter for IFOAM and the partnership approved this proposal. 4

5 After the tough and fruitful discussion about the Handbook the next topic was the activities presentations, carried out by each partner organization during the first year of EcoQualifyIII project. Those presentations took place as following: 1. P0 by Mrs. Athanasia Tziortziou 2. P2 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariana Ivanova 3. P3 by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vladislav Popov 4. P5 by Mrs. Valentini Litsiou 5. P6 by Mr. Damian Dragomir 6. P7 by Mrs. Nazan Cevik 7. P8 by Mrs. Melahat Özkan All the above presentations will be uploaded on dropbox in order to be available for all partners. With the above presentations the first working day of the 3 rd EQIII was closed. Second day, 16 th of September As the previous day the acceptance or not of the comments and suggestions for changes on Handbook took much more time, the second day started with the remaining topics of the 1 st day. So, a presentation for the suggested methodology that has to be followed in the frame of WP4 Testing of the quality assurance system in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey was done by the partners from EcoRPartner Mr. Damian Dragomir and Mr. Mihai Tudor. This partner organization is responsible for the WP4. 5

6 Before the meeting a draft version of the methodology was sent to the consortium in order to be ready for comments and proposals. The conclusions of this discussion regarding the methodology for the testing phase in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey are listed below: The target group for the testing phase will be: o Teachers of training institutions o Retailers and Stakeholders of organic products o Auditors of the quality assurance systems in the educational field The three topics that have to be checked by retailers and teachers are: o Differences between organic and conventional agriculture o The most important organic product in market o Basic things in sales management The validation groups is better to be separated, in order to have better results For the needs of WP4 three different types of questionnaire will be designed by EcoR Partner. These questionnaires will be sent for comments and feedback to the partnership until December 20 th Partners have to send their feedback to EcoR partner till January 15 th The final version of the questionnaires will be ready by P6, until January 31 st All the relevant partners will apply the questionnaires to the target group until February 28 th

7 The collection of the questionnaires, the results and the elaborating of the draft report will be ready until end of March 2012 by P6. The final section of the 3 rd transnational EcoQualifyIII meeting covered the subject of the interim report and the financial documents that partners have to submit to the Coordinator. Guidelines and directions for the better process were given by Prof. Dr. Stergios Tzortzios and Dr. George Vlontzos as coordinators to all the members of the consortium. Partners had the possibility to ask their questions and to make clear their doubts regarding to the interim report and their responsibilities. The meeting closed with a short thanking speech by the EQ III project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Stergios Tzortzios and by all the partners as well, to the Turkish colleagues for their hospitality and their efforts for organizing and running in a successfully way the 3rd transnational partnership meeting. For the better management and administration of the project for the next period and until the 4th meeting the following to DO list was created. Workshop 4 February 28 th 2012 End of March 2012 May 31 st and June 1 st 2012 Bucharest After the lunch all partners traveled from Canakkkale to Istanbul where they were invited from the Organic Product Producers and Industrialists Association (ORGÜDER). The ORGUDER s President, Mr Ayhan Sumerli, the ORGUDER s General Secretary, Mrs Melahat Ozkan, together with some members of ORGÜDER had organised and kindly offered a dinner to all partners, in Cemile Sultan Korusu. In the dinner were participated many producers, members from the ORGÜDER as well as a government representative from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Turkey and journalists. The dinner started with a brief speech of Prof. Stergios Tzortzios, the Coordinator of the project, about the EcoQualify III project aims and possibilities. All partners during the dinner had the opportunity to discuss and exchange their experiences on the production and market of the organic products. September 17th, 2011 /Saturday/ All partners were invited from the ORGUDER s president, Mr Ayhan Sumerli to his Organic shop. Mr Ayhan Sumerli presented to us the variety of the organic products that he sells to his shop and each partner had the opportunity to discuss with him about the organic market and its tendencies in Turkey. Partners enjoyed a lunch with organic specialities prepared by the staff of the organic shop and kindly offered by Mr Sumerli. 8

16 Canakkale, Turkey, 15 th Sep.2011 Coordinator s speech in opening the Workshop3. Dear Colleagues, dear friends, I am very glad that we are all together again in this very nice and very historic area of Canakkale (near Troy), well known from the famous stories from the ag e of Homer-Omiros Odyssey on which many relevant cinema films were produced. As it is very well known, the Balkan countries -which the main partners of this our project come from- during the past time periods (since the Alexander the Great, the Romans, the Byzantium, the Ottoman Empire, the Balkan wars, the World wars), were obliged to live together in various forms of population mixtures, which wanted or not guided the peoples naturally to a mutual exchange of genetic and cultural elements (characteristics) among them. Based on this, we could say that all of us (the main partners of the project) are a little Bulgarian, Romanian, Turkish and Greeks, which is easy to realize when one visits some of the other three countries. At least, it is my main feeling every time I pay such visits. Of course, we are here not for historic matters neither for social and cultural studies, but for the history of our project for which all of us have taken the great responsibility to carry out the important tasks that the European Union has appointed us to undertake. It means that the importance of our work is of a great worth for the people of our countries first, and for its transfer to the whole Europe after that. I know that all of us have realized and absorbed the real meaning of this importance for our people and therefore we have tried quite hard to implement our tasks properly during this first year of the project. It is the meaning of our meeting here to present the work we have done up today, in order to submit the Interim Report in that satisfactory form required, so that we be eligible (qualify) for the second payment. We hope we ll prove that we have worked successfully, in order to make our countries to be proud for their representatives in the European projects.
