ebay Banner Ad Step-By-Step Guide

1 The following instructions are for placing our banner ads into your ebay Store. If you are looking for help with ebay listings, click here. To get started, you will need an ebay storefront and basic knowledge of how to set up your pages. This process will take approximately minutes to complete. Once you click Get Started or Create an Ad from financing.paypal.com, you will be redirected to the PayPal Banner Ad Builder. Select the On My ebay Store option to choose banner ads for your storefront. Please note that for credit compliance purposes, you shouldn t use banner ads created for ebay Stores in your s or on your website; conversely, you shouldn t use banner ads created for websites or s on your ebay Store. PayPal Credit takes every precaution to make sure that the banner ads on your site meet credit regulatory requirements. Please do not modify or alter the banner images or code to ensure they are compliant. You have three options for placing the ads: 1. You can create a Promotion Box a graphic display you can use to highlight the financing offer. This is the simplest method. 2. Create a Custom Page Layout using one of the free templates provided by ebay. 3. Create a Custom HTML Header that appears at the top of all of your store pages. Whichever option you choose, remember that location is everything when it comes to advertising financing on your store. When your customers know they have financing options early in the shopping experience, they re more likely to spend more. We recommend placing banner ads above the fold on your storefront pages. 1

2 Option 1: Promotion Box 1 Step 1: Select your ad size Select the ad size you would like to use on your ebay Store. Place your mouse over the pixel dimensions of the banners in order to preview how they look, then click on the size that will work best for your ebay Store. Step 1 2 Step 2: Copy secure banner code Once you select a banner ad size you will see the code displayed on the next page of the Ad Builder. Highlight the entire tag by clicking the Select All button. Next, Use the copy function on your computer by going to Edit in the menu bar and selecting Copy, to copy the highlighted content. Make sure you have selected and copied all the code to ensure your banners function and look correct. It is also important not to modify or alter the banner images or code to ensure they meet regulatory requirements. Step 2 3 Step 3: Click Promotion Boxes Login to your ebay account and open your ebay storefront. Click Promotion Boxes under Store Management on the left. Step 3 2

3 4 Step 4: Create a new Promotion Box and choose the type. Click Create new Promotion Box. You can also edit an existing box by clicking Edit in the Actions dropdown next to the existing promotion box listed. Then select Communicate to your buyers. Step 4 5 Step 5: Select Promotion Box location and type Select the location for your promotion box and the pages where you want it to appear. Under information type, select Custom. This will switch to the HTML builder. Step 5 6 Step 6: Paste the code and label the box Paste the code you copied from step 2 into the HTML builder box by going to Edit in the menu bar and selecting Paste. Name the box so that you can keep track of your promotion boxes. It s just for you and won t be shown to your customers. Step 6 NOTE: The screen shot above shows sample code pasted into the HTML Builder. This is only sample code; please use the actual code that you copy from the PayPal Ad Builder as the code differs for each business. 3

4 7 Step 7: Publish your page Click the Save button and then return to you store s homepage and hit refresh to view your newly added banner. This may require clearing the cookies and cache. It can take up to 30 minutes for your banners to activate. Thank you for placing a web banner ad on your ebay store. Need another size? Create another banner ad now. Step 2 3 Step 3: Click Feature List and edit the store header Login to your ebay account and open your ebay storefront. Click Custom Pages under Store Management on the left. 6 4 Step 4: Select your preferred layout and name your page Select your preferred layout and click the Continue button. Next, enter a page title under the Text Section. This name won t be shown, it s for you to keep track, in case you use multiple custom pages. Step 4 5 Step 5: Paste the code and complete questions Paste the code you copied from step 2 into the HTML builder box by going to Edit in the menu bar and selecting Paste. Adding Financing Banner Ads on your ebay Listings Follow these instructions if you would like to add financing banner ads to a single ebay listing. All you need to get started is an ebay account. Step 2 3 Step 3: Create an ebay listing Go to your ebay homepage and create an ebay listing by clicking Sell an item at the top of the page. 4 Step 4: Paste the code In the Add more details section, click Switch to HTML editor to open the HTML view. Paste the code you copied from step 2 in the Add more details section by going to Edit in the menu bar and selecting Paste. Then, click Next. Step 4 11

12 5 Step 5: List your item Follow the on-screen instructions for completing your ebay listing. Once you are satisfied with your listing details, click the List it button. (The banner will not show up on the preview screen, just the code. Once you ve listed the item, within 30 minutes the banner will populate. If you don t like how it looks, you can always edit your listing and choose a different banner size.) NOTE: PayPal Credit already places automatic financing messaging on the View Item page for all eligible listings. There s no need to put a separate ad on this page. Step 5 Go to your ebay listing to view your newly added banner. This may require clearing the cookies and cache. It can take up to 30 minutes for your banners to activate. Thank you for placing a web banner ad on your ebay listing. You can use that same copied code to place banner ads on other ebay listings. Just repeat steps 3-5 for all you other items.
