VCE is a two year program Units 1-4 To be awarded the certificate you need to pass 16 out of 22 units including 3 units of English (including Units 3&4), plus at least three other subjects at Units 3&4 English is the only core subject Maths is very important check the level of maths required. Consult your Maths Teacher ATAR is calculated on 6 studies ONLY Consider a VET study VET is a VCE subject and contributes to the ATAR ATAR is used in Uni and TAFE selection at Year 12
10 Why is English so important? How employable are you? English is: Job applications Interviews Verbal communications Report writing Teamwork Customers Planning and organizing Life long Learning
11 VCE MATHS COURSE SELECTION GUIDE Studying General Maths, Maths Methods, or Specialist Maths in Year 11 VCE requires students to have a CAS Calculator. These calculators cost around $200 and are also used in Year 12. If a student wants to do General Maths at Year 11 (and then possibly Year 12 Further Maths), they should meet the following recommendations: The student should have done Mathematics at Year 10 and passed. It is not recommended that any student attempt Year 11 General Maths if they failed Maths at Year 10 because they will not be adequately prepared to succeed. If a student wants to do Maths Methods and Specialist at Year 11 and 12 they should meet the following recommendations: They should have studied Advanced Maths at Year 10 with an average score on assessments of at least 70%.
12 Subject selections How to choose? Select according to: Subject interest Subject skill/knowledge level Subject suitability level of motivation, demonstrated capacity Prerequisite requirements visit and view VICTER 2018 to check these.

To do an external VET: Must have a clearly expressed interest in a vocational area Need to be prepared to catch up on classes missed - in private study Understand their are Costs and Travel involved. Costs paid before course commences in February Need to see Mrs. Fellows and collect an application form if interested Your application will be considered by the VET Coordinator, Senior School Leader and Principal
16 Pathways 2016 SBATs School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATS) You can combine school with part-time employment and VET. An SBAT becomes part of your secondary school program and your school study timetable SBATs require an arrangement between you, your parents, the employer, the RTO, our school and an Australian Apprenticeship Centre SBATs require approximately 13 hours a week consisting of training and employment SBATs contribute towards your VCE, lead to a nationally recognised qualification and include paid work. In 2014 we have had students doing SBATs in Automotive, Digital Media and Children s Services. The automotive students do their training in holiday periods and work one day each week. The child care SBATs work one day a week and their training is conducted during private study periods as well as on the job. Students doing an SBAT do 5 VCE subjects (the SBAT counts as 1) instead of 6 as the normal program involves. Need to see Mr. Fitzgerald if interested
17 Pathways VCAL VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a recognised qualification just like the VCE is. It is a hands-on option for Year 11 and 12 students. The VCAL gives you practical work related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work Students who do VCAL are likely to be interested in going on to training at Technical and Further Education (TAFE), doing an apprenticeship or getting a job after completing school
18 Pathways VCAL Students undertake some VET training in their VCAL program and have an opportunity to do Structured Workplace Learning If you successfully complete your VCAL, like your peers who complete the VCE, you will receive a certificate and a statement of results that details the areas of study you have completed What do you need to do if you are interested in studying VCAL? Make an appointment in August with your parents to see Mr. Fitzgerald to discuss Attend VCAL Information Sessions in September
