3 How can I get college credit while in high school? 1. AP :high school credit and may earn college credit based on examination score 2. 4 What is Move On When Ready/Dual Enrollment? An opportunity offered to qualified high school students to earn college credits. The student is simultaneously enrolled in high school and college and earns credit for both. The student can be a full time or part time college student.
5 Where Can I Attend? A student may apply to attend any participating public college, private college or technical college in Georgia.
6 GHS Post secondary Options Academic Courses(UNG, Lanier Tech.) Students may be enrolled part time or full time in college level coursework. All hours paid by MOWR will NOT count against the paid hour cap for the HOPE Scholarship. Students must meet eligibility requirements for the MOWR Program and for the individual college as well as Gainesville High School. Technical Courses (Lanier Tech.) For students seeking technical certificates or diplomas from a Technical College System of Georgia institution. Students must meet eligibility requirements for the college. All dual enrollment courses must be approved by the student s counselor.
7 Will My Credits Transfer? It is the student s responsibility to talk with colleges regarding their policies on Dual Enrollment credit. Generally, public colleges in Georgia will honor any credit earned at any other public college in Georgia when grade is C or better. Private colleges and out of state colleges vary on their acceptance of DE credits.
8 What About Grading? A=95, B=85, C=75, D=70 End of Course Tests are still required for specific courses If the student fails a college class, it could jeopardize graduation and the HOPE scholarship eligibility. All DE classes are included on high school transcript

10 Considerations Student must meet the college entrance requirements as well as GHS requirements. Student/parent is responsible for all interaction with the college. Student must have all schedule changes approved by the GHS counselor. Holidays, Spring Breaks will be different from GHS.

19 Advanced Placement Courses Students in any grade may take AP courses (if prerequisites are completed). AP courses follow a curriculum mandated by the College Board. AP exams prepared by the College Board are given in May, and are graded by the College Board on a 1 to 5 scale, with 5 being the highest. Scores are reported in mid July. Colleges may award credit based on the AP exam score.

Carefully weigh your options when choosing between taking a course for an AP or Dual Enrollment credit, especially if applying to a very competitive college.
25 Interested in enrolling in AP courses? Analyze your current performance and the effort that you are willing to put into your courses. Discuss options with your teachers, parents and counselor. Consider the positive impact AP will have on college admission. Talk with AP teachers and review their websites. Talk to students currently enrolled in those courses.
