College Credit Plus: A State Funded -College-ready students: College-readiness determined by college. -Grades 7 12 Opportunity to Earn College Credit -Many college course options -Public colleges are free -Private colleges may include small cost

Under what scenarios can a qualified student use College Credit Plus?

You want to take college courses to satisfy your high school graduation requirements. You completed your high school graduation required classes and you want to begin college work. You want to explore college and take a course in a subject that interests you.

College Credit Plus Classes may be taught here at WMHS by a WMHS teacher or Student may attend class on the college campus-must provide own transportation or Taught here at WMHS by a visiting college faculty member

Deciding to take College Level Courses: at WMHS or on Campus Consider: -You still must meet our graduation requirements-college classes taken can be used to meet HS requirements. -College-level work -Financial Obligation- if you fail a course, you/parent can be required to pay for the course. -Drop dates-follow the college policy and are different than WMHS policy. Student may be charged and receive negative mark on their permanent college record. (Moving?)

Deciding to take College Level Courses: On the college campus -Transportation/parking fee is NOT provided. -Scheduling: Must coordinate between our classes and the college you are attending. May make vacation and participating in extracurricular activities difficult -May be more difficult to stay in the loop on events/information in the high schoolannouncement list-serve/web-site

Advantages Take courses not offered by WMHS Experience college-level work early Receive both high school and college credit, at no cost to you (if you pass!)

Weighted Grades College courses must be weighted equally to the greatest weight of Advanced Placement, or honors classes, in the same subject area. AP, IB, Honors Class College Course

Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for either books or fees. Students attending a private college may have a cost that includes books and fees.

Books Currently-CSCC and COTC gives books to kids and then has them return them to the bookstore at the end of the semester. If you damage/do not return them, you may be charged. OSU and OU-Process still a work in progress! As soon as you have a list of books needed, let Mrs. Grezlik know, and she will advise you how to proceed. Currently, we rent used, then new. Then purchase used, then new. Rented books need to be returned to the bookstore in good condition and purchased books need to be returned to Mrs. Grezlik in good condition. If not, you may be charged. Do NOT pay for any books yourself! School district will NOT pay tax.

Risks Increased responsibility in college classes Less time for extracurricular activities??? Grades in college courses will affect your high school GPA/class standing, which could affect scholarships, college admission, financial aid, etc. Different schedules-on-campus classes Failure of a college course=you/parent must pay for it!

How many classes can a student take? A semester college course of 3 or more credits counts as a one-year high school class (1 credit). You can earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year; includes summer term. No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program

How many classes can a student take? 1) Determine student s number of high/middle school ONLY units, 2) Multiply that number by 3, and 3) Subtract the result from the number 30. 4) That number is the total number of college credits that CCP student may earn that academic year.

Example Schedule: 1-Government 2-AP Calculus -Leaves for campus 2x3=6 30-6=24 So, the student can take 24 credits from the college that year, spread over BOTH semesters.

Example Schedule: 1-AP Government 2-Comp 1 and 2 (CSCC-6 Credits) 3-Music Theory and Music History (CSCC-6 credits) 4-AP Calculus 5-Physics -Student leaves after 5 th period to go home and study 3x3=9 (periods 1,4,5=high school credit only classes) 30-9= (credits from Comp and Music)=9 credits left from the college over both semesters/summer (don t have to use them)

Student Choice -You choose the course(s) that fit your goals. -Each must be secular, apply toward a degree or workforce certification and confer college credit.

How do we know the college we end up going to will accept our college credits from these colleges? Thanks to Ohio s Transfer to Degree Guarantee, many entry-level courses earned at an Ohio public college are guaranteed to transfer to any other Ohio public college. Credits earned at private colleges, or those that you want to transfer to an out-of-state institution, will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the institution you are seeking to attend. May also vary depending on major Go to to check transfer credits and AP scores Transferology-Out-of-State and Private Colleges

Athletic Eligibility Always verify athletic eligibility with the Athletic Director! Example: Nine-Week Grading Period (Must Equal 5 Units or Equivalent) History- High School 1 (year course) 1 x 1 = 1 Literature- CCP 3 semester hours 1 x 2 = 2 Calculus- CCP 5 semester hours 1 x 2 = 2 Biology- CCP 3 semester hours 1 x 2 = 2 Total Credits= 7 = eligible for next grading period provided five credits passed and 1.5 GPA. ***The factor of 2 is used for post-secondary institutions that are on the semester system.

Summer Requirements -CCP will include summer term courses beginning in Rules governing summer enrollment are expected to be in effect mid-february Summer term will apply as the 1st term of the next school year. -A college s summer term may begin in May. There may be multiple sessions within a summer term.

Summer Requirements -If you want to participate in summer term, you must submit your letter of intent to participate early enough to apply and gain admission to the college and register for course(s) in the spring.

So what do we do now? Students may need to take a placement test to determine readiness for classes (arranged by the college after applying for on-campus classes) Schedules at WMHS will be adjusted as needed once you begin scheduling classes over the summer with the college, if taking oncampus classes. your guidance counselor over the summer.

So what do we do now? For classes taught at WMHS, after the student signs up for the class, they will be contacted by the school counselors to inform them of the next steps, depending on which college is giving credit for the course.
