UIs within a CE7.11 BPM Process Applies to: Enhancement package 1 for SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 Summary This How-To guide helps you understand how to overcome the current Visual Composer and Business Process Management integration limitation, by using a dedicated workaround that enables consumption of the Visual Composer UIs as human tasks in BPM. 3 Overview Visual Composer is a powerful tool for modeling of application UIs that can be used as standalone applications or as part of a more complex composite application or process. BPM (Business Process Management) is a powerful tool for developing rule-based composite business processes. With NetWeaver 7.2, a full integration of Visual Composer UIs within the BPM process will be available and the Visual Composer UIs will be consumed by BPM or generated automatically from a BPM process. With the first release of BPM (enhancement package 1 of Composition Environment 7.1) this integration is not yet available. To support customers that want to consume the Visual Composer UIs within their BPM processes already today (with enhancement package 1 of CE7.1) a workaround that provides an interim solution was developed. The workaround supports the consumption of the Visual Composer UIs in BPM by using a Web Dynpro Java wrapper application. It automatically creates the Visual Composer UI data structure, together with the necessary methods and events in the Web Dynpro wrapper component. Since this workaround is only an interim solution for CE 7.1 EHP1, it will be replaced by the full BPM and Visual Composer integration solution in NetWeaver 7.2. Note that when you upgrade to NetWeaver 7.2 the CE 7.1 EHP1 processes will continue to run, however any modification of these processes (in design time) is done using the NetWeaver 7.2 full-fledged solution. This how-to guide explains how to use the workaround to consume Visual Composer UIs with BPM SAP AG 3

Solution Details The solution is available as a zip file and includes the following files: 1. HMVCGLXBRIDGE.sca: The runtime bridge component that enables the calling of a Visual Composer (WD4VC) application from a standard Web Dynpro application. 2. com.sap.vc.galaxyintegration.jar + WDTemplateAPP.zip: Create a NetWeaver Developer Studio menu, which is used to populate the Web Dynpro wrapper application's context with the Visual Composer model's data structure. The zip file can be downloaded from here. To run the solution, the following actions need to be performed (detailed instructions are provided in the document): Design Time: Import the HMVCGLXBRIDGE SCA to Developer Studio (the bridge SCA connects the Web Dynpro wrapper component to the Visual Composer application) Create a template Web Dynpro wrapper component, using the Developer Studio menu Configure the Web Dynpro component Runtime: Deploy the HMVCGLXBRIDGE SCA to the server Prerequisites: Since the created Web Dynpro wrapper component actually calls the Visual Composer modeled application, the Visual Composer application should be able to receive or send data to and from it. For this reason, your Visual Composer model should have a start point and an end point. The start point and end point should both have the exact same fields (and field structure). This is very important. You know the name of the development component in which the model is stored, the name of the model, and its namespace. The Developer Studio plug in is loaded. To load it, copy the plug in to the Eclipse plug ins folder (under <Eclipse Installation Folder>\plugins) and restart Developer Studio. The HMVCGLXBRIDGE SCA is deployed on your server SAP AG 4

Solution Steps: Prepare the Business Process and Visual Composer Models: 1. Design your business process. Visual Composer can be used to create the UIs for the process tasks. 2. Create the Visual Composer models that you want to use for the UIs of the tasks. Import the bridge SCA, create the necessary dependencies between it and the Web Dynpro wrapper components and deploy the bridge SCA to the server. Note that you should do these steps only once: 3. Switch to the Development Infrastructure perspective. 4. Import the HMVCGLXBRIDGE SCA to Developer Studio by right clicking the root context (for example, LocalDevelopment) and choosing Import SC. Set its Archive Store property (in the SCA Overview tab) to the folder in your file system to which you copied this SCA. 5. Select the SCA that contains your Web Dynpro development components and select the Dependencies tab. Click Add and select the HM VC GLX BRIDGE SCA, then click Finish. Your Web Dynpro SCA is now dependent on the bridge SCA. 6. Go to the Web Dynpro development component and add a dependency to the tc/vc/glx/bridgecomp development component that is inside the HM VC GLX BRIDGE SCA. Click Next and select all the checkboxes, then click Finish. 7. Deploy the HMVCGLXBRIDGE SCA to your server. Create a Web Dynpro development component and copy the src and def folders from the WDTemplateAPP.zip file: 8. Create a Web Dynpro development component for each task you have in the process. You do this by switching to the Web Dynpro perspective, and choosing File New Web Dynpro Development Component. Note that you only need to create the development component not the whole application. 9. Right click your Web Dynpro development component and choose Properties. Select and copy the location of the development component SAP AG 5

10. Navigate to the copied folder. Copy the src and def folders from the WDTemplateAPP.zip to this folder, overwriting all existing files. 11. Right click the Web Dynpro development component and choose Reload. Use the integration plug in to create the Web Dynpro components in the specified Web Dynpro development components: 12. Choose VC and BPM Integration Start Wizard. 13. Use the plug in to select the Visual Composer model that you want to use and the Web Dynpro development component that will contain the wrapper component. Click Finish. The model s data structure is created in the Web Dynpro component controller and interface controller SAP AG 6

14. The Rename Component screen opens. Enter a new name for the component. Note that Web Dynpro requires that all entities (components) have unique names. Click Next and verify that everything is selected. Click Finish. 15. Right click the Web Dynpro development component and choose Reload. Write the code that calls the Visual Composer application: 16. Right click the Component Controller and choose Open Java Editor SAP AG 7

17. Scroll all the way to the bottom. Enter the namespace, the development component name, and the model name instead of the placeholders. 18. Right click the GLX_CompView view and choose Open Java Editor. 19. Select the wddoinit method and insert the following code: wdthis.wdget<component Name>Controller().start(); This step also appears as a //TODO: task in the Developer Studio Tasks view. 20. Build the development component and check that there are no errors/problems. Limitations and Notes When mapping the fields of the Web Dynpro application in Business Process Management context mapping, you may get mapping errors. To resolve these errors, right click the source node and map to the target node (after performing the mapping). This causes Business Process Management to auto map the fields and avoids compilation errors that are caused by incorrect Business Process Management mapping. Web Dynpro supports unique node names across the context tree. If your model s start/end point has more than one node with the same name, the solution does not create more than one of these nodes. To avoid this, rename the nodes in the start/end points and map their values to the element that is connected to them. If you change the interface of the Visual Composer application (i.e. the start/end point), delete the context from the component controller and interface controller and run the solution again. Errors are displayed using dialogs and the general console SAP AG 8
