7 Why is efficiency so important The effect of an efficiency increase of a coal fired power plant from 30 to 47% is: CO 2 emission reduced by 33% Coal consumption reduced from 480 to 320 g/kwhe If Russia use 80 mill tons of coal per year, an efficiency increase could save 25 mill tons of coal per year
